Earlier this month Foursaken media announced that they have a new game in the works called Puzzle to the Center of the Earth, which they described as Spelunky meets match-3. It sounds like an odd pairing, but upon further clarification by Foursaken to the Spelunky influence, it actually sounds like a perfect mix. To quote a comment from them, “Spelunky is all about being very aware of your (randomly generated) surroundings [because] so many things can kill you instantly or very quickly – one mistake and you’re dead. And then there’s all the other stuff like exploration, using items to get you places, etc… Puzzle to the Center of the Earth definitely has all of those elements, they’re just a bit different being wrapped in the core matching gameplay." I don’t know about you, but that description alone has me excited, but this first gameplay trailer should do the trick as well.
I have to admit, I never played Spelunky, but I love all the core ideas that are being used in Puzzle to the Center of the Earth. It also sounds like it has a lot in common with one of my very favorite iPhone games, Doug dug (Free), which is another game all about trying to asses your surroundings and current situation and if you aren’t careful you’ll end up dead in the blink of an eye. I’m hoping all of the various elements comes together just fine in Puzzle to the Center of the Earth, but seeing as it’s a Foursaken game, I don’t think I have much to worry about. Look for it to hit iOS and Android in early October.
