Namco’s Pac Man Championship Edition has gone on sale for $0.99. Pac-Man C.E. by far is our favorite title coming out of Namco these past few months. Originally an Xbox 360 title, the game has made a wonderful transition over to the iPhone.
Pac-Man C.E. is the best Pac-Man title on the iPhone. The $0.99 version contains 5 championship maps and 20 mission maps. An additional 10 championship maps, 100 mission maps and 15 challenge maps are available for $3.99 extra. Even so, for $0.99, the core Pac Man C.E. is easy to recommend you can decide for yourself on the rest of the content.

On cone for .99$? Woo :P
I love Pac-Man! Can the 5 championship maps or 20 mission maps be played like the original map in the first Pac-Man? In other words, is there a survival mode? If there is, I'll buy it right now.
that\'s exactly what I wanted with PAC MAN REMIX :(
to answer your question, no, there is no \"survival mode\" like in the original pacman. HOWEVER, you have 5 minutes and you need to get the highest score you can in those five minutes (without losing all your lives).
so if you got the top score but lost your last life before the 5 minutes were over, then your score wouldn\'t get acknowledged. (I once died with 1 second left on the counter... a tad frustrating)
it is a *bit* like survival mode, but with a 5 minute limit. the xbox 360 version also had a 10 minute limit, which was really intense I found.
It\'s still very cool, and for 99c, I would TOTALLY get it if I were you
Thanks for the reply.
I got it, and I love it. :)
Brilliant game! It's not just the best, it's the only good one imo. In this case, I'd say don't be put off by all the DLC gripes people are having with some recent games. If I would want anything, I suppose I would be up for a full screen mode. Eyes aren't what they used to be: /
Curses! I only bought this last night for the full asking price. Oh well. Tis life. Pretty superb game though.
WHATTTT!!!!!! OH NO YOU DIDN'T!!!!!
Looks fun, I sure hope it's easier to control your Pac-man
than in the Pac-man & Ms Pac-man release.
I am wondering if the control is really good or not. I am not a fan of virtual 4-way pads so do any of the other control methods work very well?
Yes, I use the swipe control which is fantastic. There is a choice of either one or two joysticks to guide you visually so you can see which way you just swiped which I find pretty handy (They show up around 4'50 in the video).
I am not keen with touchscreen Dpads either - but the finger swipe joystick works well!
must not have sold too well...
might actually pick it up for 0.99. Screw the DLC
not a big fan of the pricing scheme (would have rather had to pay 7$ upfront for the complete thing, than feel like I was suckered into DLC) but for 0.99c, I have to admit, you can't really go wrong with the core game here.
it is a bit annoying to see modes greyed out in the menus. for me, DLC should ad to an already COMPLETE GAME (ex: an RPG expansion pack), and NOT fragment a single game into many little pieces you need to purchase. this terrible trend started (as far as I know) with LUMINES LIVE on xbox 360, and with the in-app purchases, it looks like it's here to stay on iDevices. Too bad, because it does leave a sour taste in the mouths of many, myself included.
but back to PM:CE. it controls SURPRISINGLY WELL for such a twitch game. I'd say, if you liked the 360 original, don't hesitate to get this for 99c.
I might even get the DL.. I mean, the REST OF THE GAME.
This is the exact reason I'm holding off on these new releases until after New Years ... just on the off chance they go on sale like this. :)
Have loved it since I got it for the 360 (even though I'm terrible at it) and now I can have the bliss that is Pac-Man C.E. on my little iPod Touch.
And probably still gonna wait to get the DLC just because I don't know yet how long the content it comes with will last me. Just depends.
Congrats to Namco, EA, and Gameloft. You've all trained me not to buy anything at launch or even close to "full" price. I'll just wait for it to be $.99 or on some other form of sale before buying games again. It's great marketing, but I'm tired of feeling like an idiot for not waiting for things to go on sale.
Perhaps Apple should extend its retail store price protections (14 days) to the app store. Developers would hate it, but it'd be fantastic for consumers, and would certainly encourage more sales earlier on if we know there's less
chance of getting screwed.
Good idea. Even 7 days maybe. Devs might not mind since it would boost sales volume, and give them new freedom to play with pricing.
If you really think paying an extra two bucks constitutes getting "screwed," then I'm sorry things are so tough for you. Do you drive all over town to save a nickel on each gallon of gas, too? Do you complain to bartenders and waiters about how much more cheaply you can drink and eat at home?
yes, yes and yes.
GOT A PROBLEM WITH THAT?!?!? ;-)
I bought it full price and love it. You guys whine a lot. Great game. I'm satisfied.
I like the game, too. Controls are as good as you can expect on a touchscreen and not much worse than on the xbox 360. Price was fine at launch and is now even better. DLC is to get $ from real customers instead of giving free games to pirates. Life is good and Pac-Man deserves this.
great that's a straight purchase for me now, only thing I was holding out for was a price drop just like this =D
I have bought this at full price, and also bought the downloadable content (and paid extra) and i like this game enough to be able to say yes its worth it. so all in all i probably paid around $8-9 AU for this, but i'll easily get over 8-9 hours of gameplay out of this (if i havent already) which really brings it down to $1 dollar an hour for me. I can't think of anything else in life that would give me fast, furious, fun excitement for $1/hour. But Pacman CE does! :) It always makes me feel good to hear complaining and whining about a couple of bucks here and there, because i already have the game and these suckers are holding off for months to save a buck.. hilarious!
I'm glad that amuses you. personally, it's not so much the couple of bucks as it is the principle. I think it's normal for enthusiasts who show support by getting the game at launch to feel a bit gypped when the developer drops the price 3 days later.
I'm not talking about a price drop to re-stimulate sales 2 months down the road, I'm talking 50%-off-the-game-that-came-out-last-week price drops (SMBall 2, anyone?). That's a slap in the face.
I paid 9.99 for REAL RACING on day 1, and it was worth EVERY PENNY. if firemint saw fit to sell it for 2,99 today, or even 3 months ago, I'd have absolutely no problem with that. since June, I have gotten MORE THAN MY 10$'s WORTH out of that game.
But if I paid 9.99 for SUPER MONKEY BALL 2 last week and saw that by the weekend, Sega had dropped the price to 4,99, presumably because the game didn't sell as well as they'd hoped, I'd be really pissed off.
So it's easy to say "you people whine a lot" or "it makes me laugh when I see these suckers bitching about bla bla bla, but you have to maybe stop and think for a second about the CONTEXT of said bitching and whining.
I agree that someone complaining about paying full price for a game that came out months ago and gets a price drop now is retarded; you enjoyed your game all that time, and if you bought it yesterday and the price dropped today, that's life, you were unlucky. But people who get games at launch and see the app's price drop sharply DAYS AFTER are more than entitled to feel ripped off IMHO.
I just can't get worked up about what your saying at all. Anyone who has been following the app store for a bit can see how it works. It really is just a matter of holding your horses and not leaping for the buy app button on release, as tempting as it is. You only have yourself to blame really if you pay the full price for a game (I speak for myself there too). I'm sure there are a plethora of games sitting there on your iDevice that you could occupy yourself with in the interim. I know there are on mine: )
Leaderboards, please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! I just bought it for 2.99. AAAARRRGGGHHHHHH!!!!! Oh well at least I'm a billionaire. No worries.
well im not WHERE's my refund!!! I payed 2 dollars more for a demo and the DLC stays the same price-NAMCO-1big rip off artist
Hahahaha!
I bought this for .99
The controls are surprisingly good - I use the fingertipswipe myself.
Nice graphics, nice control... If you like Pacman this is well worth a buck!
Fun game. However the price drop happened a little to fast. I agree with others, if a game comes out at $3 or $4 bucks and the price drops after a few months, then I don't have a problem. But barely a week after release and it's .99?
If anything, this has taught me to not buy instantly and wait a week or two. Indie developers usually don't price drop this fast(hence I don't have a problem buying from them on release date).
However, It seems to be the bigheads(Sega, EA, Namco, Gameloft etc...) that do this. So any game the big guys produce for now on, I'm just going to wait and see if a price drop comes up.
Now that being said the DLC on this game, is where it's at.
;
Christmas and Thanksgiving is an opportunity (excuse) to drop prices and increase sales numbers so it appears on the Top 100 on iTunes which in turn increases exposure. Not a bad strategy. Look at Monopoly. Launched at $2.99, rose to $4.99, dropped to $2.99 and now back up to $4.99. I'm sure there will be a ton of new iPod Touch/iPhone owners this season downloading apps like crazy.
As far as the DLC goes for the most part don't bother unless you have the need to 100% everything and quit a game once you do. It mostly just gives you extra crap to do.
The mission levels feel like a tutorial so they're pretty boring if you know the game already, possibly useful if you don't. I don't know if I'll ever go through all those.
The challenge levels aren't a big deal to me either, 1-10 are "the ghosts are fast!" on the championship courses, where...the ghosts are fast when you eat a power pellet. 11 has the course darkened like one of the extra modes in the 360 version, I'm not sure what the others are yet but I'd guess the same.
The championship levels work well enough but I don't really play them except to get the gold (#1 on the built in scores). There is one exception, the last one (#15) is the 360 championship. If you've never played that then there isn't much reason to it other than planning to get it or comparing to other 360 scores online. The first course in the core game is fine for high score chasing, it's somewhat similar but tweaked to be easier and works well on the phone.
As for controls I use the screen buttons, here's a high score run of mine here on course 15 (I'm about 40k behind my score on the 360):

And some other (much better) guy using swipe controls on course 1:

Others like the dpad too, mess around with it and just go with what you feel comfortable with.
Kinda disappointed with this port...it's not even remotely as fun as the Xbox 360 version.
