Chillingo and First Star Software has released the first gameplay video from their upcoming Boulder Dash port for the iPhone. We took a first look at the game a while back, but this video should bring back memories.
First Star Software is offering both updated graphics as well as the original “retro" graphics. The game is due for release on May 15th.
This looks sweet. I used to be an avid Advance Wars player, so this game fits right into my category.
I was rather disappointed with Uniwar, however this looks promising. Can't wait for it.
What's the problem with Uniwar? (I see two comments here against it)
Is it the solo play? I can see where that's lacking, as the AI isn't so bright and the computer moves can take far too long, but the multiplayer is fantastic.
lol Good luck Bernard!
The game looks and sounds quite awesome and worth the efforts, maybe even the girlfriend???
I know i have been waiting in the dark for this to be released. Great news to hear about an update and cant wait for it. when is the big date? Sorry bout your relationship issue(s)...
I don't quite get it... Hypercam is a Windows screemcap program, and the iPhone SDK only runs on OS X. Plus, those look like mouse movement comments, not touch commands as evidenced by a cursor.
So while the game looks fun, I'm not quite sure what going on. Can someone explain?
The drunken apology and monologue at the beginning was A-MAZ-ING. Chin up Luc!
Wicked game. =)
looking good, but not quite like the animated graphic
I don't like the art style at all, but the gameplay is copy>paste Advance Wars, which is both good and bad. If Uniwar doesn't change for the better in a few updates, looks like I'll take a look at this.
Hahaha, Luc, I gotta tell ya. Your apology is most likely not going to help you one bit. Sorry! I like your style though, and I'll definitely drink one (or a few) for ya. Also, the game will be a purchase for me. Looks sweet!
Luc if you're reading this, what synths were used in the music? It sounds like a novation supernova. I love the pads in the bgm, great work.
I really like the music, very ethereal!
this is the game where the guy who did the music had the live chats and music-making demo awhile back, yes?
Yeah, I believe they posted it a while back and it is somewhere at www.seanbeeson.com
I really feel how the iPhone is more and more becoming a professional gaming platform. I mean don't all publishers offer drunken apologies to their ex-girlfriends?
For god's sake how on earth could you publish this article? It's really a joke. As if every loser on earth can just behave like this. Totally unprofessional, drunk, apologetic and you give him a platform.
This is the IPHONE/ITOUCH platform with a couple million users. NOT LOSERS. If you are aiming at making me feel like a total idiot nerd, well done. This way we'll never get games with higher budgets.
Go perform autofelatio, you tool. Luc is a man, and as such can do things like this. Real men and women care more about what (and whom) they love than what society tells them to do.
Go screw yourself and then read a book, you superfluous, obsequious dog.
P.S. The reason I know you are a lousy, servile serf is because you are obviously more concerned with larger budgets that innovative gameplay. "Oh no, oh no! I can't creatively come up with quality games! We need to BUY them!"
Hey, that's my impression of you, you materialistic hollywood sell-out. Money is no substitute for genius.
Had no idea Russell Brand was a video game designer. That explains it all. Anyone making the connection?
To Sebastian above:
Just so you know, I'm much MORE likely to buy this game because of the drunken apology.
Lets hope the graphics change into Advance Wars :) Sorry Dev. I am impressed by your efforts to clone an incredible game (advance wars)...
HOWEVER...
Its not Advance Wars. So why bother copying it? Get your own IDEA. Advance Wars was brilliant because it has its own unique charm... which is exactly what your game lacks by copying Advance Wars. Think about it.
I disagree. Think about it: If one followed your logic, then we wouldn't have games such as CJS-- or any of the wonderful chess apps for that matter. Innovation often comes in small increments. How much does advanced wars deviate from chess, a game which "emerged in Southern Europe during the second half of the 15th century?" (Wikipedia) Think about.
Your point of evolution of design is true but doesnt apply here. Advance Wars may be like chess... but it looks nothing like it.
This looks like Advance Wars. I already own both Advance wars for the DS. I love them as is and would chose to play them over a "clone" that tries to look like Advance Wars.
This game just shows a lack of originality and artistic direction. Its easy to copy.
I'd rather drive a real Dodge Viper, rather than a civic with a body kit made to look like a Dodge Viper :)
gee Sebastian, lighten-up. You'll enjoy life more.
:P
I like the art direction and the music, definitely a buy for me, if at least it's that smooth on the iphone.
As for the drunken apology, leave him some slack guys. Developing your own game takes a lot of time, and it usually doesn't mesh well with real life. At least he didn't drunk dial her on the vid...
Just so you know, all those professional developers, they too have real life situations. It's the publisher's publicity department that usually sterilizes any media of any human emotion not associated with the game. Apparently some of us can't conceive of reality and gaming at the same time. Tsk tsk...
Good one sebastian, you tool
Been waiting for a game such as this, but honestly I'm disappointed with the characters. They look way too weird. I mean seriously.. so so weird. They could have resembled monsters and aliens, but where the hell did these characters come from??! It is mainly this reason that I'm hesitant in purchasing the game.
