'Plants vs. Zombies 2' Releasing in July, and "It's About Time"

Monday, May 6th, 2013

Back in late March, PopCap announced a beta for a Facebook version of their classic tower defense game Plants vs. Zombies, and during that announcement they casually hinted that the long-awaited sequel would be coming sometime in early summer.

Today PopCap has narrowed that release window down to just July, and they've released a humorous new teaser showing just how long-awaited this sequel really is and how it can drive some fans and industry folks alike just a little batty.

Tying into the huge wait for this sequel, it appears the game has an official name poking fun of that very thing: Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time. It's about time indeed, PopCap. The possible bummer of all this is that no specific platforms have been officially announced, but the original game is on… pretty much everything and I'd expect the sequel to be too.

However, the July release date may just coincide with PC or something, so stay tuned and as soon as we have official word on an iOS release we'll be sure to let you know. Also, as always, add Plants vs. Zombies 2 to your TouchArcade [Free] app Watch List to be notified of new stories when they hit.

PopCap Announces 'Plants vs. Zombies 2' is Coming in "Early Summer"

Wednesday, March 27th, 2013

Last August, PopCap Games vaguely announced a sequel to their mega-hit tower defense game Plants vs. Zombies [$0.99 / $0.99 (HD)], providing no real details but confirming that the game was a real thing that was in the works and slated for release sometime in "late spring 2013." There has basically been no word on the status of the sequel since then.

Today, while announcing a limited beta launch of a Facebook version of the game called Plants vs. Zombies Adventures, PopCap once again vaguely confirmed that Plants vs. Zombies 2 is still a real thing that is still in the works, and rather than the late spring release window we should be seeing the game hit sometime during "early summer."

While there are still no details regarding what the new sequel will contain, Plants vs. Zombies Adventures on Facebook will feature new plant types, new zombies, new kinds of defenses, and all sorts of Facebook-y social integration. I imagine that Plants vs. Zombies 2 will entail many of those types of things too.

If you're interested in the Facebook version, check out the Plants vs. Zombies Adventures page for information on the beta and eventual release, and if we get any actual information on Plants vs. Zombies 2 then we'll be sure to report it to you here.

'Plants vs. Zombies' Sequel Announced

Monday, August 20th, 2012

An actual sequel to Plants vs. Zombies [$0.99 / $0.99 (HD)] is in the works, creator PopCap Games revealed in an e-mail this morning that contained no actual, meaningful details about the game aside from its projected release window: late spring 2013.

As with most follow-ups, Plants vs. Zombies 2 will include a new setting, new scenarios, and "new features." Oddly, no platforms have been announced, but we're going to go out on a limb here and assume an iPad and iPhone version is in the works.

Plants vs. Zombies debuted on PC, but it made its way to every viable platform. We were particularly impressed with the touch versions, as they worked spectacularly well and dished out a similar experience to that of the original.
