The year is 1985. California, San Cahoto, a coastal suburb of Los Angeles, a ritzy neighborhood. Peter Mingus 15 years old, a student at San Cahoto Union High School, wakes up to a new day. A new day of school and all the deplorable problems. So many problems. Peter always finds the right place to say the wrong thing, at the absolute worst time. Daily school life is a desperate navigation of competing factions, uppity clicks, and the most superficial popularity possible.
But, something is happening; to his town, his school. People are disappearing underground. Some walking away from their jobs as if given a order. Others leave their homes and no one sees them again.
Peter finds when he makes it to school: strange little creatures, disguised with crude imitations of human dress, meticulously taking over the High School. The little monstrosities use a tech which is far more advanced and superior than anything humans have in 1985. The devices they plant around use an orange mindwave to gain control over most sentient beings. Most beings. A few are immune to the creatures’ mindwaves. Peter is the latter.
Where did these creatures come from? Are they aliens from a world beyond the stars? They did not come from the sky, but from dark mysterious Earth. Something terrible is happening to Peter’s world and now he seems to be a wrench in the gears of an unknown menace. If Peter wants to save his home then he must stand face to face with the screaming unknown and scream back.
