EA’s ‘Command & Conquer: Red Alert’ and 2K Games’ ‘Civilization Revolution’ Strategy Games Coming to iPad

Along with the blitz of iPad details leaking out of the App Store this evening comes EA’s Command & Conquer: Red Alert for $14.99, a real time strategy game that appears to share quite a few interface elements with the iPhone version. Since the iPad was first announced, the increased screen real estate has left RTS gamers drooling at the potential of playing a full fledged strategy game without the somewhat annoying limitations of the small iPhone screen.

Command & Conquer: Red Alert is yet another game on our long list of games we’re going to need to be trying out this Saturday. Hopefully there is more to Red Alert than an up-sized version of the iPhone game. I’ve got my fingers crossed at least.

Also coming for $12.99 is Civilization Revolution which has been “updated and optimized" for the high resolution display of the iPad… Yet another game to add to our busy Saturday morning.

Looks sweet, but wouldn't it be very difficult to wrap ropes on such a big screen?

Difficult to wrap simulated string around a less then 10" space? Sounds like it will feel more natural than ever.

Looks great, really crisp! And that Touchgrind board is sweet! :P

Whoever said rope and skateboards don't mix? :)

And where is the iphone version???

I remember TA reporting that the iphone version would probably drop first.

I checked their site and they make no mention of it.

I hope all these developers like EA and Secret exit, etc. don't forget about the ipod and iphone owners so fast, the ones who have buttered their bread for the past 2 years. Release both!

Is there a way to separate out the iPad reviews to another section or something?

I'm also feeling like there is more attention being paid to the iPad right now than the iPhone on this site (although I haven't done a count of which gets more attention in any way). It makes sense given that the iPad is about to be released, but it really feels like the iPhone is being neglected. I hate to see my interest in the website wane, which it is.

I feel the same way. I own an iPhone 3G S and I constantly refer to this site for the latest app reviews, sales, etc. Lately I've been seeing so much stuff for the iPad it's ridiculous. Sure, it's a new Apple product and everyone's excited (except me), but let's take this into consideration:
Almost EVERY app being released for the iPad has been raved about and reviewed. New and exciting apps are coming out for the iPod Touch and iPhone but you don't see every single one making the front page do you? It's like the pocket iDevices are old-hat! Personally, I haven't heard hide nor hair of Small World until now, and many people can agree that Dungeon Hunter isn't exactly the greatest RPG. Did you guys know Mario Bros is supposedly in the making for the iPod touch and iPhone? Why hasn't there been coverage about it?
Respect, I say. Respect the elder devices! :P

        because it's not true?

While I'm sure the developer puts a lot of effort into making each version of this work great on it's intended platform, having 3 separate versions just doesn't work for me. I don't want to buy version 1 for iPhone because version 2 with OpenGL 2 effects is coming as a paid upgrade. I don't want to buy this version because it won't work on my phone. Unless they combine iPhone version 2 into this one, I won't want to buy that either because it won't work on my iPad. In the end, I don't end up buying anything because each version limits my options, even though I really like the lite version.

At the very least, the iPad version could work everywhere. Does the App store allow discount upgrades if the developer wants? If so, the iPhone version could be a little cheaper, and then you pay the difference if you later decide you want the iPad version.

Zen Bound 2 is currently only available on the iPad. This is a new game with new gameplay mechanics, graphics, levels and soundtrack. It is an improvement over the previous game in every way.

All the textures and details in the game are designed for the iPad screen, and would look blurry and bland if simply scaled down to iPhone resolution.

For Zen Bound 2, it requires much additional work to make different versions of the game look their best on each device, and each version requires its own textures and other graphic elements. If all different device data was stuffed into a single package, it would needlessly bloat the file size for the majority of the customers, and probably triple the needed development time (and significantly raise the costs!) to have a polished game ready.

As long as we get new levels (and paint bombs) either as an update or in a sequal to the IPHONE/TOUCH, I will be fine.
