Indie Adventure Classic ‘To The Moon’ Has Gone on Sale for the First Time Ever

TouchArcade Rating:

To The Moon ($1.99) may feel like a relatively recent release in iOS terms, as Freebird Games’ beloved adventure title only made the transition to mobile in May of this year. However, To The Moon dates back to 2011, and has since become one of the reference points for the emotive power of certain indie games. The title was met with universal critical acclaim upon its original launch, and was showered by accolades, even against groundbreaking releases like Ghost Trick and Portal 2. The mobile version was similarly met extremely positively, and received a glowing four-and-a-half star recommendation in our review shortly after launch. It may be a relatively fleeting experience, but it is certainly an essential one, and today To The Moon has gone on sale for $2.99 for the first time.

In many ways, To The Moon stands as a perfect encapsulation of the positive and negative traits of games from a bygone era. The graphical style, powerful soundtrack and touching story hark back to 32-bit platforms of old, and the quality of the game even within its short run-time is still mightily impressive, even in 2017. However, the mobile touch controls aren’t as as refined as could be, and its genesis on the RPG Maker X engine defies its relatively sedate text-heavy gameplay. If you’re looking for the next Crashlands ($6.99), you’re not going to find it here. However, for everyone else, To The Moon is one of those impactful indie experiences that really has to be tried, and the convenience of mobile gaming combined with its new $2.99 price mean this is a perfect time to dive into the title if you have missed it over the years. With no indication on how long this promotion will last, download To The Moon at its discounted price as soon as possible, and share your thoughts and impressions of the game on our forum thread.
