Valentine’s Day is almost upon us, and while some of the more cynical amongst us may claim it’s really just a capitalist exploitation of a chemical reaction that compels animals to breed, it does give many couples around the world an excuse to demonstrate their love to the object of their affection. Of course, there is no better way to show such commitment as with a Pokemon GO (Free) Valentine’s Day event! From 11am PST today, until the same time on February 15th, Niantic are celebrating Valentine’s Day within Pokemon GO, through making pink-colored creatures more common, lure modules last for six hours, and by awarding double the candy for each Pokemon captured or buddy companion walked.
In this love-themed promotion, Niantic have specified that Chansey and Clefable will be more common in the wild, and recently added Generation 2 babies Cleffa, Igglybuff and Smoochum will be more likely to hatch from eggs. By extension, you can probably assume that Clefairy, Jigglypuff and Wigglytuff will also be more frequently encountered, but whether some of the more unattractive creatures that share a similar color scheme – for example, Slowpoke, Slowbro and Lickitung – are included in this event is yet to be seen. Similarly, despite being as pink as they come, I highly doubt Mew will suddenly become abundant in your back yard during this limited time period. While I doubt couples will be putting aside that fancy meal for a bit of creature catching, the ridiculous extension of the Lure Module, as well as actually being able to catch a Chansey for once, does sound very exciting for those of us still walking the streets at 1am looking for colorful critters. That being said, I’d trade all of the Clefables in the world for Generation 2 Pokemon to show up in Pokemon GO soon! Hopefully Typhlosion will be mine sooner rather than later.
