If you managed to find (embezzle) around $5 million, what would you do with it? Buy expensive cars or indulge in all kinds of craziness? Well, this California guy did all that but also spend $1 million of that on Game of War (Free). Yes, he spent a fifth of the money he embezzled buying IAPs for a game. I’m pretty sure there should be a different category than “whale" for a guy like him; maybe he’s a dinosaur or something, I don’t know. What I do know is that just the fact that you can spend that much money on the game goes to show that there’s really no ceiling to its monetization system.
We often talk about crazy stories with people spending big sums of money on F2P games, but it takes a story like this one to really shine a light on just how much money one could spend on a mobile game these days. most, if not all of it, on consumables. By the way, the story ended with that guy going to jail and perhaps with Machine Zone’s developers weeping for the loss of a dear, very wealthy friend.
