It may be because I’m a massive fanboy for the caped crusader, but Batman – The Telltale Series (Free) has really impressed me with their fresh take on Bruce Wayne that stands apart from many other interpretations in films and video games in the past. Even with some technical difficulties that have often delayed the mobile release apart from its console alternatives, Telltale’s take on Batman has generally been up with their previous graphical stories such as Walking Dead: The Game (Free), and have even taken an emphasis on divergent paths that are a step beyond what you’d normally expect from the developer. Episode 5 of Batman – The Telltale Series, which is ominously titled ‘City of Light’, serves as the finale to the season, and continues on from the precedent set in that the beginning of this episode will be greatly determined by your previous choices in Episode 4, and could potentially be the most enthralling entry in the saga yet. Episode 5: City of Light is set to launch on December 13th, so look out for the Bat-Signal next Wednesday to finally complete Telltale’s latest epic story arc.
In Episode 5: City of Light, the leader of the Children of Arkham is in the final stages of destroying the Wayne family name, and Batman’s attempt at shielding his identity is causing countless deaths and endless chaos within Gotham. You have to decide how far Batman will go to keep his true self a secret, and ultimately which mask he will wear when those closest to him are in their path of vengeance. By no means a revolutionary premise, as the identity of Batman has traditionally proven to be a catalyst for some of the more eccentric and obsequious characters in Gotham, however the ability to choose the lengths to which Bruce will act is incredibly exciting, and in the context of the rest of the series which has looked at Batman from a deeply personal and human level should be a fitting end to a fantastic series. Look out for the finale of Batman – The Telltale Series next week, and let us know your thoughts on City of Light on our forum thread.
