Back in June we caught wind of a lovely looking upcoming flying game called PixWing from developer RymPow Team, which is comprised of folks who also worked on This War of Mine ($13.99) at 11-bit Studio. What really caught my eye about PixWing was its use of blocky textures giving it a decidedly retro look, but still having massive 3D open worlds to fly around in. It struck a similar type of old-but-modern style that the recent Horizon Chase (Free) did so well. I’ve been excited for PixWing since it was announced, and at long last the game finally has a release date: September 10th, just under two weeks away.
Interestingly, PixWing was designed with gyroscope controls in mind in an effort to get you to get up and use your whole body to fly around its worlds. There will even be a calorie-burning counter on display. However, if fitness gaming isn’t your thing, it appears there will be some alternate control schemes to use. Either way, I’m still really looking forward to PixWing when it launches on September 10th. The price will be $3.99 with a 25% discount during launch week, and the game will not contain any in-app purchases.
