Disney and Kabam have just released the first details and a teaser trailer for a new Star Wars game that's coming to mobile later this year: Star Wars: Uprising. Being made at the Kabam RPG Studio in San Francisco, the one that made Spirit Lords [Free], this is sounding like an action-RPG where you can create a Rebel character, go on missions, collect gear, and do all the things that action-RPGs entail. Kabam is promising real-time co-op so you can battle the empire with friends with your own crew and cartel. There will be raid missions that will supposedly affect the game universe based on how they go, too. Seems interesting.

The setting of Star Wars: Uprising is interesting, too: it's taking place between Episodes 6 and 7 in the Anoat Sector which includes Hoth and Cloud City, with the galaxy in flux after the death of the Emperor and Darth Vader. Sounds interesting! This one is expected to launch this fall, and my guess is that we'll hear about it going worldwide not too far ahead of The Force Awakens. Consiering Avengers: Age of Ultron led to many games, my money is on there being a number of other Star Wars games getting revealed ahead of The Force Awakens this year, so expect to be hearing about more and more Star Wars games.

This is very interesting, defo going in the watch-list.......

  • The Golden Boy Casanova

I'm definitely interested in the real-time co-op aspect of this, I'm looking forward to trying it out. Hopefully the IAP doesn't completely ruin the game.

Finally a Star Wars rpg on mobile!!!

    • Edwin Ramirez

You must have missed the Knights of the Old Republic on mobile for some time now.

      • WoyBoy15

No I have it just have beat 3-4 times and waiting for one that isn't a old game

      • Edwin Ramirez

Oh ok. Anyways, I wouldn't get my hopes up for this game.

  • diaskeaus

    Yey for upcoming movie tie-ins!

As long as the inventory management system is better than Spirit Lords, I'm all in.

  • Brendan Charles

I almost got excited until I saw it was being made by Kabam. Sorry, not holding my breath on this one.

  • curtneedsaride

Mention of Star Wars and/or RPG get me excited, but the fact that it's from Kabam makes me hesitant. I would love to see this released as a premium app along the lines of KOTOR, but we all know an online f2p game gets into the hands of way more people. But since it's an original RPG... and Star Wars... I have to try it.

  • jgeirge

Does Kabam really suck that badly? Figured people would be a bit more excited by this

The new movie is in the reins of Disney(they refused George Lucas's scenario ideas and gave it to some other people) and from the trailers released and the director, it seems to be a doomed, bland story, average action/science fiction movie, full of canon omissions and inconsistencies. And Disney is starting to milk the cow this early. Not a good sign.

    • bleeps

George Lucas dropped the ball with episodes 1-3. Plus all that bullshit he pulled with the digitally "enhanced" editions of ep. 4-6... He's lost his touch. The "some other people" you're talking about are J.J. Abrahms and his production company Bad Robot from the latest Star Trek movies and Lost. Episode 7 is going to be fun.

      • Benjamin Rodriguez

It'll probably still be good. But the kicker was that the Star Wars universe all fit together, nothing clashed historically between any of them.

Disney already said they would break canon, possibly having multiple universes, conflicting stories.

Is that a bad thing? Idk, as long as it's good if watch it. But I know true fans are upset, Marvel/DC may go through multiple timelines, Star Wars did not. It was all one cohesive world.

Lucas added to canon and minimized his creation. Midichorians determine Force aptitude, please. I had no desire to understand how it works. Plus, Darth Vader that is not a bad a$$. Vader is a spoiled baby! Lucas gave them story ideas for seven and they dismissed them. I guess he was basing it around kids. I have no desire to see Goonies in Space. I'm not saying that The Force Awakens is going to be great as that remains to be seen...this is merely my 2 cents (do with it as you will)...

      • Benjamin Rodriguez

I agree don't get me wrong, but a good movie is a good movie. Worth potentially destroying a franchise? Probably not, but a broader audience could help.

I was wondering if we know for sure that The Force Awakens was going to deviate from canon... just curious

      • Benjamin Rodriguez

We don't but they've already acknowledged that they are fine with deviating from canon.

Also they have tons of projects going on, most of which seem to deviate from canon. One of their cartoons I think stays within.

Gameplay footage? This is obviously going to be http://FTP...so what's the pay-wall going to be like?

    • http://gquiller.tumblr.com/ gquiller

Can anyone find said footage? I'd love to know what that wall is. I'm suspect as it's only a splashy cinematic...

      • Peter Pottinger

I'm playing, its not bad, lv 29 and my cartel is lv 23. havent paid yet.

  • Benjamin Rodriguez

lol, I guess I wasn't the only one who saw Kablam and was disappointed.

  • DaWookiee

The story and concept sounds really interesting, and I'm always down for more Star Wars mobile games, but I am a bit hesitant about whether or not a Kabam F2P game can deliver on everything this is promising.
