Could Teens be the Key to the Success of Apple Watch Games?

Sister site MacRumors has just published an article based on a survey of teens in America, asking who intends to buy an Apple Watch and why: while it’s not the number one reason, 61% of teens interested in the Apple Watch want it for apps, ahead of the desire for the brand and fitness tracking. While at the moment, 11% of teens currently have an interest in the Apple Watch at all (down from 16% in the fall), it’s possible this is normal variance, and that it could change with an Apple marketing blitz and as other people start to receive their watches.

Why does this matter for gamers? Well, if teens are interested in apps for the Apple Watch, perhaps there could be more interest in games for the Apple Watch than people are anticipating. Considering that teens are a huge part of gaming in the age of ads and free-to-play, and have played a huge role in the popularity of Minecraft ($6.99), PewDiePie, and Flappy Bird, if they’re buying Apple Watches, and buying games for them, this could be a market to really pay attention to. Remember that Flappy Golf (Free) saw a huge shift in downloads depending on when school was in or out. Teens are big business for mobile games, and it could continue for smartwatch games.
