Last week, Disney and Marvel soft-launched a spinoff mobile game for the upcoming movie Guardians of the Galaxy, and as of today that game, Guardians of the Galaxy: The Universal Weapon [appprice url=""https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/guardians-galaxy-universal/id834485417?mt=8"] is now available worldwide. Following an original story inspired by the film and comic series, The Universal Weapon features gameplay similar to the original Battleheart which sees you controlling a party of characters and line-drawing to combat enemies in real-time. In addition to the five main characters from the film, there are 20 more Guardians of the Galaxy characters to unlock and play with through both single-player Story campaign and an Arena mode.

One other thing worth mentioning about Guardians of the Galaxy: The Universal Weapon is that it's a premium game, selling for $4.99 with no in-app purchases. It also doesn't require any sort of constant internet connection to play, though it does utilize a connection for things like Game Center. It's a bold move for a movie tie-in game like this, which could very easily have been free to play, so hopefully the game is well-recieved. The one negative so far seems to be the actual size of the app. It's roughly a 70 mb download initially, but upon launching will download additional assets and balloons to nearly a gig, so be prepared for that. I'll download this right now while I'm taking a crap.

Move aside combustion engine and moon landing. Truly we have reached the zenith of human achievement...taking a crap while purchasing computer applications.

        Truly this a great time.

That's why we remain a first world country. Just like me. Taking part in a conversation about downloading games while pooping while I myself is taking a poop. I will fight to the death for my right to download/chat whilst I relieve my pressure filled colon.

LMAO!!! I just busted out laughing.

Same happened to me, but in the cafeteria at work... Co-workers looking at me like I'm a psychopath.

Sweet sauce. *clicks to buy game*

Disney makes me crap... But this looks promising.

It's based off of the comics! INSTABUY!

For people that bought the game, how is the gameplay? is it as good as battleheart?

    • curtisrshideler

I'm finding it quite similar. It's also just really well made and slick. Tons of content. And file size. Almost a full GIG installed and playable.

      • nini

A gig? Huh, guess you're staying on my puny iPhone then.

  • PoloBaquerizoH

Totally worth the game, thanks the devs for making it a premium game no IAP

    • curtneedsaride

I second that! I'd buy it on that fact alone.

  • ste86uk

I seen the forum with comments on file size and gameplay making me a bit unsure at this at price. Happy to pay if it's good though

I don't know either but being a complete GOTG fangirl going back a few years and it being like Battleheart, I couldn't say no even with those concerns and brought it before I knew what happened because I'm a goddamn sucker with no reflex control.

If you're more... um, focused, you probably won't buy until more reviews are in. Hold off for now, put it on your watchlist as it's not going anyplace.

I'm glad I got it and just enjoyed replaying a few levels while waiting at the Orthopedics' office. It's huge, but pleasantly enjoyable with amazing presentation. And knowing I am not having to wait for timers is a HUGE plus. Just wish the description mentioned needing 1GB free. I'm a mobile gamer. I rarely have that much space free!

  • Morgan01

    A Marvel game without IAP??

  • DemoEvolved

The way these are going now is launch in mode A: premium, no micros. Wait a bit, then swith to mode B full f2p, except former payers continue to run in mode A, so they are none the wiser. Scoop the hardcores, get the reviews, then access the mainstream and earn whale monies from kids

I love the AppStore description with the caps-lock back-patting for not being like other Marvel apps. Pioneers of the AppStore here, and experts at throwing themselves under the bus.

I promised myself I wouldn't post negative comments like this, so I also kind of hate myself now.

70 mb is nothing! Thats 0.07 of a gb.
