FDG Entertainment is doing something quite unique with their beautiful action RPG Oceanhorn ($6.99). They’re releasing a free trial version, which gives you a chance to check out the first chapter of the game, as well as test how well it performs on your device. Now, lite versions of games are nothing new, and indeed you could always just simply download a lite version of a game to see how it performed on your iOS device. What’s interesting about Oceanhorn Benchmark Edition is that it actually comes with a testing mode built-in that will grade the performance of the game on your particular device.
Simply having a lite version of Oceanhorn for people to check out and decide if they want the full version is a great idea, but it’s an interesting twist throwing a basic benchmarking mode in there too. Oceanhorn is a very visually impressive game, but miraculously it supports devices all the way back to the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS. Now you can see for yourself just how well it runs on those older devices with the Benchmark Edition. The game is available now in international markets, and should land in the US App Store around 11pm EST later tonight.
