A rather cool looking retro platformer is hitting iOS soon. Made by Studio Pixel, the folks behind Cave Story (a well-received platformer), Kero Blaster follows the story of a frog as it attempts to rescue his cat girlfriend. The story might sound crazy but the gameplay will feel familiar to anyone looking for that retro side-scroller experience. It seems to be quite challenging too, looking at the trailer:

Kero Blaster is going to be available on the 11th of May for $4.99. You can share your excitement for this upcoming game in our forums.

Studio Pixel is exactly one Pixel — Daisuke Amaya, the mastermind behind the “Cave Story”.

Super excited about this! Cave Story is one of my favourite games, and this looks like it's in the same vein. I hope that the touch controls do it justice.

Too bad they're not porting cave story!!! This looks pretty cool though.

Parts of Cave Story would be unplayable on a touch screen. The true final level is harder than most of Super Meat Boy.

Not really true. Yeah, Hell might be unbeatable, but I’ve managed to get to the Plantation. (There is a port for jailbroken devices).

    Really really excited

I honestly didn't like Cave Story (mostly the drab environments that got me) but this does look really good. At the very least we can expect something solid and challenging from them.

One console too far back IMO. More nes games. Speaking of, what a let down contra was to me. Just bought that the other day against my better judgement.
