FTL’s release date has finally been announced, and I couldn’t be more excited. This roguelike space adventure has been really popular on PC and Mac and you’ll be able to get it on your iPad on April 3rd for $9.99 without any kind of IAPs. It was a natural fit for the platform but one that took a lot longer than expected to be announced.

FTL on iPad will also come with the new content found in the advanced edition that is featured in the trailer below:

In FTL you guide your crew through different systems while micro-managing every aspect of the ship. On top of that strategy layer you’ve got a full Choose your own Adventure Game that will impact your journey. A Crew members could die or you could find some new weapons just by exploring that asteroid. It’s also a heartless game that will challenge everybody, and you will die. A lot.

FTL is one of those games that people have always clamored for on the iPad, and come April 3rd we'll finally be getting our wish. For players on the PC, that's also when all the new Advanced Edition content will be available for you. Mark your calendars for next week.

Yes! Instabuy! I bought an iTunes card last week for things like these! Fantastic!... And I love your post with the ASCII picture 🙂

  • Dethedrus

Hot damn! Instabuy of the highest caliber!

I haven't read up much on the Advanced Edition... how does it compare to say the more ambitious mods like Captains Edition?

  • Jake7905

Faster Then Light also describes how quickly I'll be pushing the buy button next week.

Is it for iphone or ipad ony

    • clompah

      It's for iPad.

      • LunaKnight2

Shame that it's only for ipad

      • jForsythe

        No it isn't.

      • 61050

seriously, how dare those cretins want to play on their phones running the same operating system. only us elites with our quadruple sized iphones that dont fit in our pockets and cant make traditional phone calls should have all the glory.

  • Baracus

Awesome Sauce! Just in time for my week holiday and 14h flight each way!

  • usagisan

  • ImJPaul

I will continuing enjoying this on my PC. Hoping one day to have it in my pocket. Totally doable.

    • ScotDamn

Same here, I'm stoked we get the update for free. I'd love to see an iPhone version though.

What is this about? Just to know..?

    • CzechCongo

Did you consider following any of the links in the article?

    • subshell001

The article is about a game called FTL

  • Mr. Gamer

Next Wednesday is gonna be expensive.

  • CooleTeeps

Darn only for iPad. Still looks like an awesome game though!

  • trazer

I have this game for PC but have never played. I got it in a humble bundle I believe. Not worth $10 to me yet anyway, but maybe when a sale hits?

    • subshell001

"never played" ... "not worth $10"

I really don't need to say anything, now do I?

      • speedyph
      • riChchestMat

The Desktop version is often cheaper than this so it's a fair comment.

      • trazer

Good grief, read what I said. I never said it's not worth $10, I said to me personally it is not worth $10 as I've still not played the copy I already own. If I play it and love it then sure, it may be totally worth it, but I should probably play the copy I own before dropping $10 on a game I might not enjoy.

Hence why I said its not worth it to me yet anyway. Key word yet. Reading, it's fundamental! And 21 other people can't read either apparently. Gotta love the internet.

      • subshell001

I guess I do have to say it then.

How do you know it's not worth $10 if you haven't played it?

That's what I meant by my comment. Calm down dude.

      • ptrostli

Thank you Captain Obvious. You'd think more reasoning applies to a comment like "not worth it" when they haven't played it.

Preference or not, it's straight up silly.

      • ptrostli

        Oh "to me" fair enough.

Disregard my comment, went back and reread it. He's right.

  • DeLtAg1An9O

And, what happened to PREVAIL from Jhonny Two Shoes?

  • Spudboy

Looks incredibly boring to me. Guess I'm missing something.

  • Bool Zero

I'll get my away team ready for transport and set them to destroy the buy button when this releases!

  • Bloodangel

Please make it for the iPhone too in the near future..... PLEASE!!! Ohh gawd :'(

    • Bool Zero

Per the developers, it's most likely not going to happen... They tried and it was a horrible experience, there is just too much information and too much to keep track of and see that it made it not enjoyable to play on a small screen. I believe them too, there is honestly too much and too fast to keep track of and that you must see in order for this to work on a small screen...

      • 61050

i heard the exact same comments repeatedly about kotor, and lo and behold, it works just dandy on the phone sized screen. mechinarium worked just fine too once it became universal, and honestly, just about every ipad only release that eventually made its way to the smaller screen has been welcomed. id rather have to pinch and zoom or scroll around on the screen than not play the game at all.

ive been told i should just buy an ipad, but i have absolutely zero use for something the size of a laptop with about the tenth of the capability at twice the price (other than the ipad exclusive games that is, so i guess i'd have one use, however a good chunk of those games are also avail. for pc). if your fancy ipad was magically able to boot to windows, id be the first in line to buy one, but as it is now i personally have no real use for an over sized and overhyped iphone.

its the developers choice and they are free to do as they choose - its their game - but there is definitely a market for a phone release.

      • seinfeld95

Also, there's Deus Ex: The Fall, in the category of "games that were originally iPad exclusives".

  • Zenfar

    Excited about this one

  • Locanis

No iPhone support, no purchase. Not everyone has an iPad.

These days most developers are smart enough to find a way to make a universal interface. The few "must have" games that don't seem like a silly decision. The only thing they accomplish is less of a player base able to buy it or wanting to play it.
If they want to limit their profit and target audience, then that is their choice. In the end I'll just save my money and purchase games I can actually play.

    • darkcrayon

You made a post to point out that you will only buy games that you can play? 🙂

    • onyhow

Have you EVEN play the thing? I can't even imagine playing this on iPhone screen...iPhone screen is WAY too small...and I'm saying as a person who doesn't own an iPad!

      • seinfeld95

Well, consider the fact that XCOM and Deus Ex: The Fall work perfectly on the iPhone, without needing a huge screen.

      • onyhow

XCOM is TBS that already have moving screen and panning, DX The Fall is a massive step down compared to PC version...

If this is an argument, why not Jeff Vogel port Avadon series to iPhone, or Overhaul Games port Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition to iPhone too? Isn't that simple job? Hmm?

  • ptrostli

ESO on PC and now this?

Do they expect me not to sleep?

At least this makes up for all the shit ever.

  • 3mry5

Anyone know what it'll cost in pounds?

  • Vexka

Yes yes, and YES! April 3rd... I CAN'T WAIT!
I've seen and heard so much about the game and loved it, but have never bought the PC version (it's also for Mac too right? So.. That part never stopped me...)
I opened some extra gift card (like how old are these?) and I'll use as my 'Golden Ticket' to the general awesomeness, craziness and all out space fighting FTL brings onto my iPad, so I can experience first hand (or two depending on the size of the iPad 😛 ) the things I've ever missed!

To the Dev's I say, congrats! I'm sure this'll bring GREAT success! (For me, and many many others buying the game, I know it will!)

Insta-Buy Love FTL and looking forward to the new content.
