Early last month we told you that Pixel Licker Games and FDG Entertainment's Slayin [$0.99] was set to get a huge version 2.0 update that adds three brand new playable characters, and today we've received video of those characters in action. The lineup of new characters includes an Archer who can shoot arrows into the air, a Ninja with a teleporting move, and a Tamer who can actually tame and ride the enemies in the game and use them as offensive weapons. How cool is that? Check out the new heroes in the trailer below.

Slayin is easily among my favorite iPhone games, and if you haven't checked it out previously you really should change that. It's a simplified single-screen action platformer that has you battling increasingly difficult waves of baddies, leveling up as you go and improving your hero's skills to face greater and greater challenges. Although it sounds simple on the surface, it's surprisingly deep in terms of strategy, and the three original heroes all played wildly different from one another. The addition of three new heroes should really add to the already fantastic Slayin experience. Look for the Slayin version 2.0 update to hit next week on January 23rd.

Never tried it,does anybody recommend it

It's one of my favorites, and I highly recommend it. Full of style and charm, great gameplay that is challenging and the controls are spot on for an iOS game.

For me it's a very simple game but purchased it for all of the great reviews and even some thinking of it as possible game of the year material. I haven't been able to get into it as I don't like the Knight and you need to play him to unlock the others.

I'll definitely try again after the update though.

I got it based on TA reviews. It's exactly like it looks in videos -- and nothing more.
If you like retro twitch 16bit games w/half the screen missing, you'll like it.
Personally, I don't have the energy / interest for sustained playing b/c I have other great games (w/o the twitch factor) that I'd rather play (ie WAZHACK).

It's among my top three iOS games. It has a permanent place on my phone. Part of what makes it great is its simplicity. The concept is very basic. Pretty much the one goal is just to stay alive. There is a real sense of progression, though. When stages change, enemies do too. The new locations and challenges keep the game interesting and you really want to beat it. I replayed it many times and with more characters there are more challenges. Also, if you like pixel art, then there is some great stuff in here.

One of the best games in my iPhone. Anything would be great, but what I saw in the video looks nuts!

I hope they add iCloud saves as well

  • francofresco

Awesome. I can't wait for this! To anyone doubting slayin, for me, it's the only iOS game I go back to after beating. Really intense arcade action.

Btw, my first post, long time follower.

    Cheers to all, thanks TA!
