It's really neat thinking that we're living in a day and age where it's totally A-OK to design an entire toy line around the assumption that kids have smartphones. The Angry Birds series seems to be ripping it up with their line of telepods which have been really hard to come by in my area, and this new HolograFX toy seems even cooler. Check out the demo video:

The HolograFX kit sells for $24.99 on Amazon and if their site is to be believed, you should be able to find the setup locally at "regular toy shops." The kit itself appears to be just the set of mirrors you need to create the holographic illusion, somewhat similar to the old Time Traveler arcade machine.

Anyway, HolograFX randomly popped up on my radar this morning, and I'm pretty sure this is something that my kid self would've been obsessed with, so, here you go. If nothing else, HolograFX is no more gimmicky than all those Spy Gear gadgets that barely do anything.

LOL I felt silly watching the video but it looks pretty cool.

I thought Spy Gear was pretty cool when I was a kid... -_-

If you are in your 30s then you are thinking about Spy Tech. Good stuff when I was a kid too!

How long will it take until some one dresses like the Emperor and say "something something something Dark Side."?

  • GonzoBlair

    That is one smug wizard.

  • rabidnz

God this is going to be an epic flop. Cant wait to see how hilarious the performance is in real life

It's won lots of awards at toy shows soooo... Either way, nice knowing we have industry expert analysts commenting here.

I wonder if you can save your holograms?

    • SoccerMomma80

You can save them! The app has a My Hologram section that acts as a personal gallery!

  • REkzkaRZ

I think most gamers are ready for hologram displays!!
(And some of us don't want to wear an Occulus Rift on our faces.)

Purchased HolograFX a while back from Toys R us for my 9yo son. It brought hours of play and he always brings it out to show to guests since it has such an awesome 'wow factor!" He loves making friends and relatives into holograms and we saved them all! Very cool toy - that lets kids play with their digital devices while still interacting with the real word.
