As an avid Magic the Gathering player, I've never had much reason to look in to Yu-Gi-Oh!, but after spending a little time with Yu-Gi-Oh! Bam Pocket, they've definitely got my attention. The game itself is like a simple, yet complex (Oh, the cliches!) version of card war. You drop creature cards with power values, potentially buff 'em up with spells, and mash 'em together. It all works out really well, but I'm not sure I'm fully wrapping my head around the deck building strategy yet.

I'm definitely pleasantly surprised by this release, and will definitely get deeper into it once it hits the US at 11:00 PM tonight. I'm curious though, of the Yu-Gi-Oh! players out there, how closely does this resemble the actual paper card game?

    Terraria? No. Urghh!!!!!!!!!

"Why aren't they focusing on the game I like?? I know, I'll keep posting comments in unrelated game previews because they can't possibly know and I need to tell them now now now!"

      • CooleTeeps

        I know right?

  • Aventador

Looks terrible , at least comparing it to gameboy advance Yu-Gi-Oh

    • Aventador

      * only version I played was on GBA , but yeah, quick look at mobygames and even gameboy color Yu-Gi-Oh game has more depth/ options than this one; I don't play card games that much anymore, but non the less appreciate effort to bring more card games on iOS, but this is just an eyesore to Yu-Gi-Oh franchise I remember.

  • Keitch83

Looks nothing like the full yu gi oh game. Where's Terraria?!?!

  • dribblejam

I wish it was like the gameboy advanced versions:/ Back to GBA4iOS:)

Even tho I'm a little upset with you guys right now, I think you guys are doing a great job with these TA Plays. Great idea for the release night.

    • Dr. Woodenstein

How on earth could you be upset with TA? They are the single best ios review site on the internet.

      • Scot D

Nothing to do with their coverage, more to do with the person moderating these comments. I'd rather not talk about it here. :-)

  • Rivalsan

This game is significantly more simple than the DS games, or the games on XBLA or PlayStation network. However, this has a very fast multiplayer focus, which could be better for mobile. I look forward to checking it out.

I put almost 100 hours into my DS Yu-Gi-Oh! games. Interestingly enough, I still don't know whether not I like Yu-Gi-Oh! because it can be consistently maddening. Honestly, I don't think that I've played a card game that has been as rage inducing as this series.

  • Jake7905

Another freemium 'card' game? No thanks, wake me when Terraria arrives.

In all seriousness, what is going to happen to all these C-List CCGs when Hearthstone drops on iOS? It's not going to be pretty in my estimation.

    • Rubicon Development

The same thing that will happen to hearthstone when Combat Monsters hits it, I hope.

      • JJE McManus

Rubicon vs Blizzard. I dunno. You may be underestimating how much heat Blizzard can bring to the table.

      • Rubicon Development

Oh I'm under no illusions who will win the publicity war, to the point where it wouldn't even be classed as a war.

But I hope the public we do reach will judge for themselves which game is better. We're certainly closer to our customers than they'll ever be and I hope that counts for something...

      • JJE McManus

It will here on TA but to the great melange that keeps Candy Crush at the top of the charts, I'm not so sure.

      • bluspacecow

You got balls. You I Like :)

      • JJE McManus

I really want to play their game now

  • ohfish

Almost zero resemblance to Yu-Gi-Oh!'s current strategies and rules. This is a stripped down to the most basic ways that attacks work.

  • Tortoso4325

Drop some monsters and get more spells

  • Benegesserit

Pass. I'll continue to play the GBA yugiohs on emus on ios

  • Jak Constantine

No IPAD 2 support. Won't be playing this.

  • Axl3dd

Just bring magic the gathering to iPhone already stop wasting time with all these crappy TCGs

  • steve22691

This is not supposed to be like the real yu-gi-oh it's a fast paste card game with the yugi element in it. They were not trying to make it the same game. It's this monster is higher so he wins that's it. The game is fast hence the name BAM!! Stop complaining that its not the same, bc they didn't make it the same that's why. It is a very good game very very good. Simple so anyone can play. Like they said its like the card game war. They didn't want to make the same game and they did a good spin off of the game. Love it

I've been waiting years for an actual yu gi oh mobile game and this feels nothing like the experience I'm used. Personally, i think the games on the ds and gba are way more enjoyable and provide you with a lot more content than this piece of crap..
