riot_gamesTwo new job postings recently appeared on Riot's careers page for both Android and iOS developers. Digging a bit deeper into the listing reveals that Riot is looking for developers to "join a SWAT team of mobile developers and designers on a mission to help players engage with the world around League of Legends anytime and anywhere, even if they’re not sitting in front of a computer."

When we're not playing iOS games, we're hugely involved in just generally being pretty terrible at League of Legends, and if you listen to our podcast you'd have heard us discuss how little sense it makes that Riot hasn't released some kind of "official" app with how many janky totally unofficial utilities there are on the App Store.

If you're unfamiliar with League of Legends, it's a Mac and PC multiplayer online battle arena that's totally free to play. Additionally, it's the most played video game in the world right now and Brad and I can't get enough of it. If you want to play with us, download the client and add both "Douche Chills" and "bmuscles" to your friends list.

Anyway, since these mobile apps are still in the "looking to hire people to actually build them" phase, or so it would seem, we don't expect anything soon. However, it is pretty cool to see Riot actively putting some effort in the iOS world.

  • Sr. Bubs

I can't be the only one who read bmuscles as bumsicles.

    • robmerrell

I didn't at first, but now I can't unsee it.

  • zzandreezz

Hmm, I don't think it'll be a mobile version of LoL. I think its probably just a guide app. But it will be really awesome if they can make a mini version of LoL using the structures of Heroes Of O&C.

    • zzandreezz

btw you guys are bronze 4 :P

      • http://toucharcade.com Eli Hodapp

We really don't play ranked, the experience is super miserable compared to just rolling with a party of 3-5 bros.

      • bradnicholson

i blame eli for feeding all the time.

      • bradnicholson

wait, no, i'm the jungler. every loss is my fault.

      • zzandreezz

        jungle or feed :D

  • Leo281993

I'm thinking of giving LoL a try. But there's one thing that holds me back from trying these games is that they have huge download sizes. So how big is the download? I'm not talking about the client. I'm talking about all the necessary game files required.

    • Evolution888

How big is your hard drive? I haven't had to worry about hard drive space in a long time.

      • Leo281993

It's not the space that bothers me. I have 300 gb free. It's the time required to download before I can get to play.

      • Protoman

Get Dota 2. It's better anyway.

    • boorch

LoL is sadly a Dota clone that is designed by 6 year olds.

  • The Gamer Dude

Ok colour me stupid but I've not heard of this game. The trailer looks absolutely badass though ( killer teddy bear :) ) , and from what I can surmise it's some kind of 3d arena fighter ? Too bad my Mac book is so gimped I'd love to check this out .

    • JJE McManus

I would take a look at GameLoft if I were Riot. They've had a perfectly good "not a clone" of LoL for some time and its gone nowhere. I still play Legendary Heroes thou so I guess I'd like to see something LoL-like on my iPad.

    • DranDran

You are the Gamer Dude and hadn't heard of the biggest game in the world right now? :D Well youre in time, League is built on an aancient emgine and purposefully so to run smoothly on any pc/mac you may play it on, so id be surprised if it dorsnt run just fine on your gimped mac. Give it a try, its free. Dota 2 ia another alternative but its more resource hungry (and prettier).

A decent scaled down facsimile is Solstice Arena on iOS. Veryeasy to get into, and unlike LoL doesnt have a steep learning curve, though of course, is ultimately a much more shallow experience.

      • The Gamer Dude

Will do sir, but that integrated intel graphics card prevents me from playing quite a bit of stuff.

That's odd cause there actually WAS an official League of Legends tower defense game years and years ago. Was a bit like Fieldrunners but featuring towers and characters from the game.
