Surprise! Someone is working on an official Borderlands game for iPhone and iPad, and it should hit later this month. At least, that's the word on Borderlands Legends from an advertisement discovered for the game in, of all places, the official Borderlands 2 digital strategy guide, according to IGN.

The ad notes that Legends has been designed specifically for phones and tablets. As far as what the game is, well ... it's some sort of wave-based action game with a "strategic cover system" and randomized mission content. So, in other words, Legends' action is basically the opposite of Borderlands'. On a happier note: it will let you play as the cast of the original game and the ad says there's tons of guns to collect and levels to be upped.

The latter information sounds like the Borderlands we know and love, so we'll definitely keep our eyes on Legends.

Sounds like the Mass Effect/Shadowgun system vs waves of slags, punks and the like. A passable idea, but unless there is some perk toward Borderlands 2 it won't stay on my phone long.

    • Greyskull

By Wave based, I'm thinking it will most likely resemble Epoch. more than Mass Effect Mobile.

  • JohnnyJ301

I don't know what to expect but it could be very cool to play a little Borderlands on the iphone, even if it is very limited.

  • NeonVoidJP

    Now I'm excited!!

    • wingz

      .......i like boobs.

I think I'm more excited for the "Thousands of Different Weapons" perk. We need that trait in a shooting game on the iPhone and borderlands will hopefully be the first.

Single player too I suspect so again not Boarderlands.
It worries me that "getting an app" might be just premium swag for a AAA developer. Not the actual game experience, just more Marketing. Buy an appropriate set of generic mechanics and supply your own unique skins. Avengers/Hulk struck me that way recently.

    • Gabriel.Voyager

I've played the first Borderlands plus all themdlc in single play and enjoy the second one in single play, borderlands is a real 'solitarie Hero' like Mad Max experience in single player :)

      • Benegesserit

Agreed. The forced loot scramble is an outdated mechanic and Gearbox decided to cop-out with the cheesy statement that Pandora is cutthroat (basically completely ignoring the huge QoL for public games -- or even selfish friends).

  • ducksFANjason

If it retains its highly addictive, Diablo-esque randomized looting system, I'm in! If not, I'm a little worried about what would make this game compelling.

  • B3nlok

To anyone who thinks this game will be anything like the console version prepare yourself to be disappointed . When you read words like "waves of enemies" or "tailored for mobile phones", you know you have to manage expectations.  Im guessing a  cover-based rail shooter like Epoch

    • http://twitter.com/PrayForDeath Ben Maleh

Prepare yourself for a watered-down BL experience with recycled BL 1 assets, IAP currency, endless waves, and of course, 'addictive' gameplay. And let's not forget the BL2 ad pop ups every 2 mins. Yay

    • mudd

I will happily take an Epoch like game with random levels and infinite increase in difficulty combined with BL2 random, color coded weapon drops. I doubt it will be this, though.

  • MarkyMarc

    Added to the 'Watch List'..

  • xepiczx

I hope it's like mass effect infiltrator

    • Gabriel.Voyager

      I hope no

I was just amazed this was news, as I saw it like, a month ago in the back of the strategy guide when I bought it.  Guess I took it for granted.

  • pauldavidmerritt

It's a dang marketing tactic. Take the 'rail shooter' FAD and put a top-sell name on it like, "Borderlands", and viola! We have another half-creation development we call a 'mobile game' and the game dev's get to make an extra buck from the SWAG that buys and supports these kind of releases.

    • pauldavidmerritt

And on top of it, when mobile gamers get hooked into these tactics and fall for it, developers don't have to be as creative and innovative with their releases anymore. I don't buy this kind of stuff, because I won't be a part of the gamer mix that helps to continually ruin the game industry.

  • Noah

Oh man, I can't wait to play Borderlands on my iPhone!!

    • JohnnyJ301

I just hope it evens comes close to Borderlands, then I'll be very excited. This is my favourite game on PC.

      • Benegesserit

It's going to be more like a BL themed version of a game already on the app store.

  • elia

Then is coming this month and today is 22 that mean this Wednesday :)))))

    • osvd

Didnt realize that.... Damn. Thanx. Cant wait !!!

    • Benegesserit

      Or Halloween

And what about making Borderlands and BL 2 to cross platform on Steam, like Valve did.
