TA Plays: ‘Sonic Jump’ – A Sonic Game That Has Nothing to do With Running

TouchArcade Rating:

We’ve been scratching out heads over this one all week, as none of us are really sure why it exists. Take Sonic the Hedgehog, a character that is best known for his ability to run really fast and think of the weirdest way you could implement him in a video game. If you’re imagining a game where you don’t run at all and instead just endlessly jump on platforms as you ascend to the sky, congratulations, you’ve got Sonic Jump ($2.99).

The game features structured level sets to play with as well as an endless “arcade" mode that can take place in the three included locales that Sonic can jump around in. Of course, it wouldn’t be an iPhone game by a big publisher without an insane amount of IAP and consumable power-ups. Packs of rings, the in-game currency, are sold for anywhere between 99¢ and $28.99 and there’s even a $20.99 “unlock everything" IAP option.

I just… I don’t know. If you were going to make an endless game of any kind featuring Sonic, why a jumping game when there’s so many better vertical jumpers like Doodle Jump ($0.99) or Mega Jump (Free)? With how popular the endless runner genre is these days, why wouldn’t you put Sonic to the task of running instead of jumping? These are the kind of questions that keep me up at night. Either way, this game is safe to skip unless you’re just crazy about Sonic. Save your money for Sonic CD (Free).
