Hey, it's Wednesday again which means precisely one thing to iOS gamers: A landslide of newly released video games are almost here. The star of the show this week definitely seems to be the second episode of Sonic the Hedgehog 4. Or, at least, that's what I'm most excited to sink my proverbial teeth into.

Like all previous weeks, these games are released in New Zealand first, then a few hours later they hit Asian markets. A while later, they spread across Europe before finally being released in the USA at 11:00 PM Eastern. At that point, all of these links should automagically start working.

Here's what we know is coming, and since we're posting this earlier in the day than we usually do, if anything else appears we'll just update this post:

Boomlings, Free - Forum Thread - A neat-looking matching game that seems to hinge on clearing massive amounts of blocks at a time. Hopefully the free to play mechanic isn't too obnoxious.

Bug Assault, 99¢ - Forum Thread - A bug squashing and zapping game from Namco. The boss fights look like they could be interesting.

Circus Atari, Free - Forum Thread - If you've been wondering what in the world Atari has been up to, well, here is your answer.

Empire of the Eclipse, Free - Forum Thread - A strategic space MMO that seems like this game has been in development for eternity, and finally it's here. False alarm, more waiting.

Extinction Squad, 99¢ - Forum Thread - A trampoline bouncing game where you travel around the world saving endangered animals that are jumping to their deaths. We got a quick look at this at GDC, and it was amazing.

Keitai Guardian, $6.99 - Forum Thread - A …female-centric choose your own adventure social game? I'm so confused.

Master of Maya, Free - Forum Thread - As we get closer and closer to the end of 2012, something tells me we're going to see a lot of Mayan-centric games. The iTunes text (and screenshots, for that matter) gives no indication of how the game is played, but, Mayan, and Free.

Missile Monkey, 99¢ - Forum Thread - Play as a monkey that drops missiles in this game which has the most literal title of all the games released this week.

Non Flying Soldiers, 99¢ - Forum Thread - An interesting looking puzzle game from Chillingo where you play the role of commander trying to get birds through various obstacle courses.

Scotland Yard, $4.99 - Forum Thread - An iOS port of a nearly 30 year old board game. The above video is for the physical version (obviously), but they do a great job of walking through all the mechanics. The iOS game even has multiplayer with voice chat.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II, $6.99 - Forum Thread - After years of waiting, finally the second installment of the Sonic 4 series is here. We'll have a review up when it hits the US App Store tonight.

Nothing like getting that TA push notification about new games releasing tonight. I love you guys!

  • IMNS

Empire of the eclipse is not releasing today. It'll be out next week.

If they don't release that game before midnight that would be the end of all of us!!!!

    Can't wait for Sonic 4-2

  • airhead3

How come this post isn't tagged to allow us to add these games to our watch list? Previous "coming tonight" posts we're tagged upcoming and not news, and allowed the switch to watch the mentioned games, right?

this is a bit of a tricky interface issue, that will be fixed in 1.1.  Right now there's no way to add one of many upcoming games from a single article.  The current system just adds all of them.  So if you added every game from this list, you would end up getting 11 push notifications tonight when they all released.

In 1.1, we'll let you selectively add multiple items to your wishlist from a single article.

Should be in the next few weeks.

Whoa! Scotland Yard?? I have so many fond memories of the RL version, I'll definitely have to get it.

Agreed!! I remember buying the game from a garage sale, but I never had anyone to play it with. I cannot wait to pick this up. Hopefully it will have a decent AI.

Sonic 4 episode 2 looks fun

It'll be extinction squad for me tonight

Judging from trailers and store pages (where up), Sonic 4-2 is the only GIRU game this week (GC, iCloud, Retina, Universal).

Would be cool if they could update/re-release 4-1 with the new engine and features.

I might be wrong on the iCloud portion, but pretty sure Scotland Yard has all of those too...

    • swarmster

Hmm, according to the review, no Retina for iPad. Rescinding GIRU status.

Anyone educated would know that not even the Mayan's thought 2012 was the end.

Sonic had better be 60fps this time. Episode 1 was barely 30fps, which is a total deal breaker for a 2D sidescroller.  If Cave can run at 60fps with the screen full of hundreds of bullets, I'm sure Sega can manage it.

I'll definitely be getting Scotland Yard at some point, although it may have to wait until my credit card cools down a little bit.

  • Gabriel_Voyager

No Dungeon Village "international" 🙁 why kairosoft! Why!? 🙁

  • russiaone

Seriously, this app makes the web version look like poo. But I digress. Can't wait to pick up Sonic after work.

Not quite as exciting as last week, I might pick up Sonic though.

  • Jlugo94

Sonic 4-2 is the best game in this weeks line-up !

    • http://www.vitaltitles.com/ Nick

For you, maybe. Scotland Yard is the BOMB. Brings back so much awesomeness for me.

  • Jenny

Keitai Guardian is actually a free app.
