Apple Increases Over The Air Download Limit To 50 MB

We regret the error at press time. The 50MB download limit is in effect now.

Apple has increased the size of all cellular network downloads, across all devices, to 50MBs from the long-standing cap of 20MBs. Presumably, this is a move meant to ensure that more… complicated third-gen iPad titles will actually be available to those not around Wi-Fi. Of course, the next iPad also boasts 4G LTE. No better time to upgrade the ceiling, we suppose.

We’ve heard a lot of grumbling about the, now, old restriction at GDC this week. A lot of downloads come over cell, so developers want to be able to tap in the market. The downside, of course, is that it forced developers into making their games substantially smaller in scale and, in some cases, even prevented content updates.
