Looks like we've got one more big release to add to today's list. Kairosoft has just released their latest simulation title called Pocket League Story [$2.99]. By now you're probably familiar with Kairosoft's method of operation: pick a theme and develop a simplistic but deceptively deep simulation around it, then fill it to the brim with cute and colorful retro-style visuals and mobile friendly gameplay.

Pocket League Story appears to be no exception. The theme of choice this time around is soccer, or football depending on which country you hail from. You'll build up a team of players, train them, and then take on the rest of the league. You also have the ability to sell your team's own merchandise, build a gym for training, and even build your own stadium. The goal is to increase your fan base as you progress your team's abilities through competition.

It looks as though all the components are here of another solid Kairosoft simulation, especially if you're a fan of footy. We'll be digging in a lot deeper before passing final judgement on Pocket League Story, but if you're generally a fan of Kairosoft's work you probably can pretty much guess what you're getting here. You can pick it up for $2.99 which is an introductory price, and at some point it will raise up to their usual $3.99.

We'll have a full review of Pocket League Story in the near future, and until then you can check out impressions in our forums which are starting to trickle in.

"Guide us!" says Kairosoft, listening intently to mobile gaming market expert 'evilsearch.'

Why can't I see this in my App Store?!  WHYYYYY? :( :( :(

Hopefully this one lets you play the game?
I know it'd have been challenging, but how cool would it have bee nif the "game co" simulation had let you see what the game would've looked like -- or even play something like it?  Oh well...

This is the one Kairosoft game I'll skip. Football is tedious beyond belief.

That said, I'm generally cooling somewhat on Kairo in general. Their games are starting to feel samey, and it's time to move on from the old school visuals and midi soundtracks.

I know what you mean. A couple months ago I couldn't wait until the next Kairosoft release. Now I'm hoping they'll wait a few more months so I don't get totally burnt out on them. I still buy them they day they're released though so I guess its partially my own doing.

Not a "footy" fan so won't be picking this up, plus I still haven't delved into Mega Mall Story. Btw, this irked me... "simple but deceptively deep simulation" - shouldn't it be "deceptively simple but (surprisingly) deep"? Sorry to nitpick!!

Haha, I think they did mean "deceptively simple but (surprisingly) deep", however "simple but deceptively deep" is probably more accurate.  It's all dice rolls anyway!

All joking aside, I've yet to play this.  But I have played a lot of Game Dev Story, and though I had fun with it, it's hard to deny that there is a lot of dice shooting in Kairosoft games.

The last two games were a real disappointment. They were just boring. I like Kairosoft games when they have a goal to reach. ( Win the Grand Prix, build your own Console, etc) first National Ranking is not a real goal for me so i might have fun with this.

I have this one on my Bionic and it is genuinely fun. Outside of Game Dev Story, this is the only other Kairosoft game to stay on my phone longer than a couple of weeks and I am not a fan of soccer.

The guys doing Star Command need to get their app out the door sometime soon...before Kairosoft burns out the market.

This one has been on the Android market for some time. It's pretty fun the first couple of times but the players you get to draft are the same every time with the same stats so even with a second run through, you'll probably end up with the same squad and you may beat Germany a little sooner. As a small tip, focus on speed and strength in special training.

So is the goal here to level up from like a small league to a big league then the world cup and to try to win a tournament or something like that (similar to Grand Prix Story's leveling up from small circuit, to big circuit to world circuit)?

    • http://profiles.google.com/bryanrrollins Bryan Rollins

pretty much, but it doesn't make that much sense. you have a club level team, but then some how you end up playing international teams. Like you spend the game building Liverpool, but then you have to play against France.

Much like the other games, the scoring ends at year 8 so if you haven't beaten Germany by then, any victory after that feels hollow. And its actually pretty tricky. The tutorial fails to tell you that by tapping on the coach, you can change the type of training the team does

i literally put in 30 hours of gameplay in 3 days. Beat the world league and kairo league.. only cup i couldnt win was the prins match

  • daniel so

also, one tip: don't invest too much training into D. Heckem. Probably the worst of the "exceptional" class of players. Wait for Eliot, the "Sensationalist".. this guy really has no limit to his stats except for kicking.

    • http://profiles.google.com/bryanrrollins Bryan Rollins

i pretty much stuck with Vuzela/Sanders up front, Mathis on the wing, West in defense. the rest were interchangeable.

      • daniel so

out of those players sanders is the one with the most longevity, he can hit 800 ish for kick and strength so you can use him as your primary forward up till about the world league. I had mathis and sanders all the way till the kairo league, but with sanders as a defender.

best players with best stats ive seen so far are the "superstars" Nash, Curry, Sharp and Frazier -- they can hit 1000 in pretty much all stats. Next tier of good players are Kelley (1000 strength), Elliot, Pearson. Phelps is pretty good too for kick and speed, but he's so weak he gets crushed by the Kairo league players.

im still stuck on the prins match... best i can do is tie those imba mofos. anyone beat theM?

      • Anonymous

Yup but only by reloading the game like 4 times. :P  Got a 3 - 2 win again the Prins.  What I don't like about that match is that auras don't even help. >_<

Sadly, because the win occurred in the second week of the first month of year 8, I couldn't get Sally as a coach. Perhaps next time ... if I ever play the game again.
