IGN recently got their hands on Gameloft's upcoming modern military shooter Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation and aside from a new gameplay trailer, also have tons of details on the game itself. First off, you really need to watch this:

It seems Modern Combat 3 will fall in line with the other entries in the series and feature online multiplayer, this time with 12 players and six different game modes spread over six maps. They've also told IGN there will be "frequent updates," so it will be interesting to see if Modern Combat 3 sees better post-launch support than previous iterations.

Single player sounds like it's basically what you'd expect: 13 levels of fast-paced military-centric combat with voiceovers and battle locations ranging from Los Angeles to Russia. Controls sound like they'll be similar to other Gameloft first person shooters. What I'm curious of is whether this is a Unity or an Unreal Engine game, not that it really matters either way, but we haven't seen much yet from Gameloft's announcement of their future utilization of Unreal Engine 3.

I swear to God, it looks like just a console game.

      You must have a Wii.

      • Joe Kralicky

You must not have an iPad

It really is amazing how much Gameloft is able to push iDevices to make their games look this good.  Say what you want about Silent Ops (I liked it because of how silly it was) but it looked AMAZING!

I am....not impressed. By using the UDK i had expected from Gameloft some breathtaking Actionsequenze, a new Graphicfestival,... something that makes me feel like being on a rollercoaster... similar to Games like Max Payne, Zelda,... where i literally coudln`t stop playing the Games till i am finished with them.

Instead...we are getting something that wants to be a Modern Warfare but with the look of Games Similar to "Soldier of Fortune" or "Sin".

Currently something in my Head tells me that Gameloft just doesn`t give a damn about the possibilities of the UDK while it seem that everyone around them is moving ahead and trying to improve their Skills while our Friends in France are doing the usual thing and play Safe instead of showing everyone else what could be Possible.

Don`t forget that we are talking here about a Game that will hit the iTunes Store this Fall not tomorrow.Gameloft had plenty of Time to play around with the UDK since they are using it for other Games too.

There are already "enough" UDK/Unity Games in Development that had make a bigger impression then this Game from Developer that doesn`t have the Manpower that Ubisoft/Gameloft do have.

Looking over the Edge and counting the Days till the iPhone 5 will hit my local Apple Store i am asking myself if i even will take the Time to play this Game. I don`t think so since it is just the "usual Stuff" and i am getting sick of it after 3 Years of Gamelofts "Clones".

      Hey man stop.

this is NOT using unreal engine

theres no unreal logo at the beginning of the vid

While I like new and different games, on consoles I'm still buying modern warfare shooters, whether it's CoD Battlefield or Ghost Recon. The reason why isn't because of the stunning innovation but the fun factor. It's not a really creative formula but it's one that works and one that a lot of people enjoy.

      • BruteOutlawz

Spot on, gameloft are just doing what every other console developer is doing. Every now and then theres something new/unique, but the core game mechanics hardly ever change.

Game looks great, cant wait to hear more about it :)

Using the Unreal engine doesn't instantly guarantee a high end product. Vastly more important than the game engine, is the game's budget, and Gameloft work on a shoe string compared to Infinity Ward, DICE, id Software, and the other big shooter teams.

Plus even the iPad 2 (which this game will certainly not require - it will run on older devices for sure) is nowhere near as powerful as an X360 or PS3.

It's probably using the same in house engine that was used for Modern Combat Domination on PS3 and Mac. Perhaps it might not have all the graphical bells and whistles of UE3, but graphically I don't see a problem. The focus should now be on gameplay.

Gameloft's animations are always the weakpoint of their games. That's what ends up killing most of their games for me (backstab, 9mm, gangstar, modern combat games) Pitiful and lazy animation will always make the game look cheap and rushed. A shame for sure since the textures and lighting are usually not too bad.

    • Decoy Octopus

This is a stupid comment. What the hell do you expect when typical gameloft games cell for $5.99 when the U3 engine could potentially cost millions to program for.

  • Johnny101

This looks just amazing. A thousand times better than this .99 cent crap on the app store

This looks like it's running on an iPad 2.  I've never seen graphics like that run even remotely as smooth on my iPod Touch 4.

  • reznor

i want a good online shooter for iphone, but no one gets it right. You cant have an aim down sights button on an iphone. Eliminate was the closest in my opinion

"You cant have an aim down sights button on an iphone"

Why not? have you even played the modern combat series? they all use a button for aiming down the sights and it works perfectly.

  • Blueknight1st

I bet it's gonna be full of IAP. Stuff like having to buy ammo, health, continues for when you die, and energy so you can play a level. And you have to spend real world money on all of that stuff.

    • AmigaVeteran

I doubt it.  They'll probably charge $5.99 and then you'll bitch about that, too.

      • Blueknight1st

I never had any intention to get this game in the first place. Call of Duty blows and so does Gameloft's Call of Duty rip-offs.

      • Mike

So you just enjoy bitching on articles for games you have no interest in? Okay, cool.

      • Blueknight1st

It only takes one look at Gameloft's current business model to realize that the possibility of this game being freemium is very real.

      • Paulm12

gamelofts current model is 1 freemium game and hundreds of non-freemium ones...I don't think they'll do that with this...

    • Joe Kralicky

What game do you know that does that?

  • Terry

So, going by past Gameloft releases, this should be out in about 3-4 weeks shouldn't it?

What happened to March of Heroes or whatever it was called?

  • Relytgninroht

Looks pretty good. I hope the framerate improves though. The footage was really choppy

  • THEmaroonBANANA
  • ltcommander.data

That scene on the road with the overhead bridge looks very much like the scene used in the first Battlefield 3 gameplay trailers.

I just hope they don't make it free-to-play and focus on making a high-quality paid app that is feature complete with the initial price tag.

  • http://twitter.com/toha4004 4004

Hope this graphics are work in progress, squary hands look like first modern combat. Those were the times...

  • Falcons5

if this will work on my 3gs with full fps like nova 2 ill buy it real racing 2 works fine looks amazing

  • ratonbox

The fps rate is actually better than on March of Heroes. And it looks a lot better too IRL than in that trailer.  Having tried both of them on iPad 2, you can really see the difference. It will be the next big thing on AppStore, for First Person Shooters.

    • Paulm12

Since you've played both, which is better in terms of gameplay itself?  How was march of heroes?  Release date for either?  (Any general time for March of Heroes?)

      • ratonbox

March of Heroes has it's pros, but MC3 will be better. Release date... none that I know, but I assume late september or early octomber for both of them. Might even be faster.  March of Heroes is interesting to say the least. For a game with Unreal Engine that's not "on the rails", it really looks great on iPad 2.

  • Dawkinchainz4lyfe

Why are people bitching? Its a game for the iTouch/iPhone. This isn''t a console game. Gameloft knows that people love the COD Series, so they want to give people a chance to play on the go or when they aren't near their console. I'm not gonna sit here and complain when the game is amazing and I can take it anywhere I want. I can't wait for this game to come out.

  • Davidof

gameloft will probably let it go to shit like they did with modern combat 2 -  with hackers hacking the game to gain unfair advantages over others in multiplayer mode

    • Noneyabusiness

I used to play MC2 a lot. Like, addicted a lot. And though I found a lot of campers, noobs, and other peeps without honor, never once did I encounter a hacker. Unless this is just hacking to get better weapons hacking, and not cross-map flaming-grenade spawn-killing hacking.

  • Wardoc22

i hope they dont go the nova 6 way and use a bazillion 4kb files to make up their game, shit tht game had shitty fps and im on an ipod 3G 32 gb

  • bmw_deliriou5

    watch  that guy
legend take over this game -_-

tbh, every game of their is fucked up and ill tell u why.
Personally I care about story line.
Sorry but I hate cloning and damn they are good at it.
I havent seen 1 game they made which is unique, a game which basically they spent more then 1 hour thinking about the storyline.
I mean common, playing their games is like playing a cheap AC(backstab),COD-MW(MC1-3),Max Payne(9mm), Starcraft(starfront), WoW(O&C) and I can just go forever. Gameloft, stop bitching around seriously, make a one good game with a good storyline N-E-W storyline.
