Jared did a marvelous preview of 1-bit Ninja early last month, and the game originally was scheduled to be released a few weeks later. Since then, we've gotten comments, emails, and forum threads wondering where in the heck it was. Well, good news, it's coming this Thursday.

Check out the new trailer:

And here's some screenshots to whet your appetite:

Looks awesome, right? I love the idea of a classic Gameboy-esque platformer with the 3D twist to find hidden parts of each level. It'll be out this Thursday, and you can bet on us having a review out shortly afterwards.

Everything looks great with the exception of jumping onto the flag pole to end the level.  It's a pretty big turn off for me.

    • DARKflame34

Yeah I hate games that do that.

    Finnally gameboy style retro

  • NotYou

    Looks great!

Did anybody else notice he only changes direction when he hits those things on the wall? Interesting concept.

  • Adams Immersive

Neat! Seems like you’d want to only ever play in 3D, though, or you’d miss parts of the levels.

  • bennehftw

It's not a new concept, they did it back in 07' for a paper mario game.

OT: Another casual game for the market

  • Ecco6t9

Looks good, but this is one of the times i'd rather have real buttons. That being said I'm still buying it.

  • Briker Ed

Playing in the 3D perspective looks like it could be frustrating to be honest. Love the 2D Gameboy feel though, and althought it has a retro Mario feel too it throughout, the pole at the end was too much, in my opinion. Like someone was telling a funny joke and then made it stupid at the end.

"Like someone was telling a funny joke and then made it stupid at the end."
      Lol, well put.

Yes! This looks like the Super Mario Bros.-esque platformer I've been waiting for. Really like the the idea of being able to change the view like that. Thought it was funny they had a flagpole ending like Mario.

Graphics are cool, but those controls are going to be nightmarish.. just look at the size of the ninja... jumping and landing on floating critters? Oh god, its like Super Mario for Gameboy. Again, neat graphics, and the retro vibe is sick, but... gimme a 'lite' version so I can check out the controls

Curious as to whether there is any interest from the developer to bring this to the 3DS eShop.  With real buttons, the 3D top screen to show the action, and the bottom touch screen to drag and change the view, it would work pretty perfectly.  Regardless, the game looks great, very excited to play it.

Instabuy. App should cost $4.99. I like supporting devs and I'm a wealthy merchant.

    • Dave

This does not look like a $5 game in relation to what else costs $5 on the app store. Make it a no brainer $.99...especially if there is no lite version. I agree, "mario" is so small I want to try before I buy this.

      • Missingno98

It's goning to be $1.99 asked the creator on Youtube.

  • DARKflame34

Man, I've been waiting for this game since it was first covered here! Glad to see it wasn't lost after it missed its 'end of May' projected release.

  • Murderin Murphy

I'm pretty sure I saw at least 2-bits there.

    • Anonymous

Yeah my Gameboy was 8-bit and there's no ****ing way it could pivot the world in 3D!!! 😀

And if Gameloft had released this everyone would be shouting 'Can't they do anything original, They're copying Mario, They're copying this and that'. But it's alright for others to copy ideas.

    • Anonymous

      u mad?

    • Steven Seagal

No. This is only similar to Mario in the sense that it's a platformer, has coins to collect, and the blocks look similar. If Gameloft released this it would be called "Super Maria Sisters" and you would play as Maria, a Mexican plumber who has to save the beautiful Princess Apricot.

What I'm saying is that Gameloft don't just stop at copying a type of game. Every developer does that. Gameloft will also copy the format, style, story, characters and, sometimes, even the music, of a particular game, and do a crappy job of it too.

  • Aer2

great take on the perspective/angle thing.  will pick it up if it comes to the ipad.

  • Cilo

If youre going to do a Mario clone where are the fireballs and mushroom power ups? Or any powerups? Come on 1 step further and youre almost there.

  • Aaron Corsi

This looks really fantastic. Clearly the dev has put a lot of work into the look and feel, I love how the RGB colors drift as objects recede into the background, it makes the whole thing look like it's on some sort of hybrid gameboy lcd/uncalibrated crt monitor. Very cool!

Haha, that's the 3D mode.  As in, red/blue glasses.  😉
