Capcom's Street Fighter IV [$9.99] not only is proving to be a fantastic fighter for the iPhone, but also one of the best supported games we've seen from big-name developers who historically haven't had that great of a track record when it comes to free content updates. We loved the game when it was first released, as evident in our review. Since then, both Cammy and Zangief have been added, and this most recent update includes E.Honda and C.Viper. Each come with two costumes, their own associated set of moves, and combos to master. Also included are some new costumes for Ryu and Chun-Li available via in-app purchase.

If you haven't picked up Street Fighter IV yet, now is a fantastic time to get on board. Capcom did an amazing job adapting the controls to the touchscreen of the iPhone, the graphics look great, and you really can't argue about four additional characters being added since release for free. Hopefully Capcom keeps the update train rolling.

It is pretty cool that they're keeping the updates coming, and in pretty good time IMO, not like the 1 year wait for music in Peggle, for instance, speaking of the big publishers :).

It would be even better if they added retina display support now, and possibly universality?

But they're not iPhone graphics. They're iPhone 1st gen graphics. It is kind of a bummer that the iPhone 4 made those look so old and/or bad; not the sort of thing that generally happens with computer hardware these days, with games having at least some future-proof support for higher resolutions. But it's the case, and as SFIV is one of the most expensive games for the iPhone, I would like to think they have updating the graphics as a high priority.

I played multiplayer over bluetooth, and even that lacked something of the awesomeness of standing in front of the same arcade machine / sitting in front of a tv or whatever the kids are doing these days with their consoles - personally I have little interest in that market or what its graphics are like, only those of the platform I am using.

Implications being I disagree with the other comments :).

Excuse my ignorance, but does anyone know how to "charge" when implementing Ehonda's Sumo Headbutt technique?

    thanks.

also, I second what "die81" says.

I'd love a free demo. The only thing that will convince me that virtual controls work with this game is playing it.

they work amazingly, pulling combos is easier than mashing buttons IMO, you just glide and tap around the screen, its really fluid and works GREAT ur missing a golden app

Capcom really should release a Ryu vs Ken demo to get more iPhone gamers onboard. 10 dollars is a really steep asking price considering that there are many trials of great games that cost less out there. I think the big concern publishers have with trials is that many people will think that's good enough and not buy the full game. When there's an app store full of thousands of games out there then people aren't gonna constantly buy more games nonstop no matter how cheap they may be. In some cases trial versions can sometimes lead to lesser sales from what I understand.

it is impossible to beat E. Honda as C. Viper in grueling mode...try it

  • tp

it is almost impossible to beat E. Honda in general in grueling mode. Anyone have tips? have been trying and failing with Ken over and over again.

    • lolwut

The only characters that can beat E. Honda in grueling is Ken and Ryu. You just need to spam hadoukens then if he does a headbutt, just shoryuken him.
