Being so involved in video games, I fully admit that I'm often woefully unaware of really awesome board games and it isn't until they get an equally awesome port that they even pop up on my radar. A couple of days ago I hadn't the slightest idea what Neuroshima Hex! was, but after watching the trailer and checking out the game, it's high up on my most anticipated game list. Neuroshima Hex! is a tactical hexagonal board game set in the Neuroshima tabletop RPG universe. This universe is host to fantastic things like nuclear war, rebellious sentient artificial intelligence, carnivorous vegetation, mutants, and humans that are just trying to survive in the middle of all this.

The board game is playable by up to four players (or single player against AI opponents), utilizing four different factions each with their own strengths and weaknesses. The goal of the game is to take over the enemy headquarters by placing tiles on the board. There are a number of videos on YouTube detailing exactly how the game is set up and played, and it sounds wonderfully complicated.

Neuroshima Hex! is being released this month, and after seeing exactly how awesome board games could be on the iPhone with Carcassonne [$4.99], I'm really excited for the game. It's fully licensed, features all of the original art, and there's even plans for an iPad version in the works.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop on board games for iPad. This is definitely an area that I have interest in, especially after having experienced Carcassonne (on the iPad, where it works fantastically as a scaled up iPhone app...the online multiplayer is so perfect, and the pieces are high-res even on iPad), looking forward to more coverage of board games.

I'm in a desperate need for a good hex strat game. Not sure if this one will do it for me. I've been looking for a WW2 hex game similar to Panzer Tactics on the DS.

"This universe is host to fantastic things like nuclear war"

I never realised that nuclear war was fantastic. I thought the whole Cold War era was us trying not to nuke ourselves to death.

    Sorry. Couldn't help myself.

That said, I loved advance wars on the DS and nothing so far on iOS could really scratch that itch..

I like the look of this - have to wait for the makes more sense iPad version, though.

The game scales beautifly on iPad. In fact since I started to test it I've stopped playing the board version altogether.

    • JCat

Thanks for that - maybe I will jump on it, pre-ipad release. :-)

    • MotorYogurt

Tell me it has hot-seat multi-player, it has to.

      • Ryslaw

Of course it does. Up to fours players.

I would love to see some type of effect beyond just the tile shaking to show that it is attacking.

    • hunkeydorey

absolutely. the shaking is very "lackluster" if you will. since they are obviously just doing simple core animation techniques, they could do so much more...

The board game for this is really unique.

If you're a fan of strategy games that have some *meat*, Neuroshima Hex is right up your alley. Even though a full game will only take about 30 minutes or so, the replay factor for this game is AMAZING. Will be one of the deeper *proper* strategy games in the app store.

it needs some little battle animations at least

    • MotorYogurt

Some battle effects would be nice. The quality of the actual board game still makes it an instant buy for me though. Maybe the devs will add something in updates.

Awesome. I have the board game, and its excellent. A straight conversion to iphone/ipad, will be great. As complicated as it might sound, the game play feels very natural, and new players quickly get the hang of it after only a few battle tiles are played.

Thanks for the reminder about this game, might pull it out and play a few rounds with the gf.
