EA Holding Massive $0.99 Sale for 48 Hours

EA is holding a massive $0.99 sale on over a dozen titles. The sale will only last 48 hours, so you have to act quickly. The games have been nicely organized by niezam into games that have never been $0.99 before, and ones that have (U.S. Links):

$.99 once or several time before

While all the games are good values for only $0.99, we'd probably say Need for Speed: Shift is the "must get" game from the list. It has frequently been cited as one of the best racing games for the iPhone, so it's a good one to have.

    Yeah, Dragon's Lair doesn't work with iOS4 yet. Digital Leisure (the devs) say that an update has already been submitted and should be available soon.

    Most of these games aren't really ment to be played on a small touch-screen. It doesn't matter if they are $1 or $5 - they are not worth the money.

    I think it's more of a clearance sale since the current resolution will be obsolete in a couple of days rather than a ploy to get to the top of the paid app lists. Unless I'm mistaken, there is no point in getting these versions if you are getting a new iPhone 4, since higher resolution versions will be coming out very soon (note how you have to pay for iPad and iPhone versions of programs individually; I would expect similarly that you will have to pay full price again for the new iP4 versions, so unless you are content with old technology, you aren't saving money).

    By the way...Need For Speed sucks (both of them). THERE IS NO GAS PEDAL!! For those who don't care, and just want a little arcade action and unrealistic sliding through corners, you might like it for $1. Otherwise save your cash and get GT Racing by gameloft. Just my opinion.

    Meh...sounds like none of the games are that outstanding, maybe I will pickup 1 or 2, but from the sounds of it, most of the games need updates and that doesnt sound like its going to happen. Not to mention if they work on OS4 remains to be seen.

    Like I said in an above post, these versions are 480x320 resolution. The iPhone 4 is 960x480. They will most likely be releasing new versions optimized for the iP4 resolution very soon, and if the iPad was any indication, you will have to pay full price for the new apps. Save your money imo.

    My tip: if you are thinking of getting Dragons Lair, get Cobra Command instead, unless you really really want to relive DL. CC is little more expensive but so much more fun.

    Cobra Command is one of my favorite apps in the app store. Absolutely flawless translation of the old arcade game.

    Unfortunately neither that nor Dragon's Lair are working with iOS4. Cobra Command crashes at startup and Dragon's Lair is missing the control overlay. I'm sure both will be patched soon however.

    Yeah, I'm a bit disappointed by that. iPad games haven't seen much sales now have they? I always end up buying the cheap iPhone versions and play them on my iPad with low res!

    Anyways, I'll be picking up NFS:S, FIFA and maybe Tiger Woods. Already have the other good ones!

    You're wrong. iPhone games are resolution independent. There aren't going to be specific versions for iPhone 4 like we see for the iPad. Perhaps new games will be iPhone4 enhanced, like we see 3GS enhancements now, but there's no reason to scare people away from a batch of dollar games.

    Just want to confirm that NFS Shift and Underground both work on iOS 4 on a 3GS.

    It's just a shame that there's no accelerometer calibration since my 3GS is tilted a little when laid flat. Cars always turn to the left so I have to play a little tilted to the right to counter it. About 7 degrees off.

    The real reason EA is doing this is for visibility in the app store ranking on day one of the iPhone 4. I don't imagine they will have high res versions of these that quick.

    Not only that, but EA is basically having a garage sale with apps that will soon be obsolete. I saw they just released college football with a regular and HD "made for iPhone 4" version. So now were all buying these versions, and then we all have to re-buy the HD versions of our favorite games.

    I doubt that devs will offer free updates that increase resolution and textures....highly doubt it :-(
