Gameloft shows off three 'Prince of Persia: The Warrior Within' Screenshots

posted May 3rd, 2010 1:45 PM EDT by Brad Nicholson in Action, News, Upcoming Games, iPhone games, iPod touch games

Following the cinematic debut trailer of Prince of Persia: The Warrior Within last week, Gameloft has revealed three new images of the game on their official Facebook page.

The first screenshot shows the dark-haired Prince in action, dropping down on a duo of foes with curved sword brandished and seemingly ready to cut. The second image is far more interesting: in it the Prince is riding a fantasy beast.

Of course we haven't seen the game in action yet, but these images do give us an indication of what to expect in terms of action. An on-screen digital stick sits in the bottom left-hand corner, while simple action command buttons — stab, defend, and possibly jump — dot the right-hand side.

In an official tweet, the studio admitted what we're thinking: this game looks awful "beautiful" for an iPhone / iPod Touch title.

Does anyone know if this may come to the iPad?

  • Deewin says:

This game looks fantastic and he's me feeling optimistic about Hero of Sparta looking closer to what God of War looks like on the psp (I've been wanting this for a while now!)

  • hovnopica9 says:

By myself would be better to release spllinter cell convivtion and stop releasing this unuselles screens… !! Get up GAMELOFT !!

  • Hitch says:

    Woooooow! Looks really good!
    And it isn't a sidescroller? Fingers Crossed…
It looks way fun though. Please come out on time!

    • ultimo says:

      I don't think it won't be…

The 3rd screenshot does not have controls, so it is a cutscene
The 1st one looks like a boss battle & can hav a diff view & the 2nd one is how the game will be played… mostly.
As far as I can tell :)

  • Louard says:

Ok, looks great, can't deny that.. but why the hell did they decide to remake what's pretty universally blasted as being the black sheep of the new PoP games? I don't get it.

    • Ginger Yellow says:

While most hardcore PoP fans hate Warrior Within, it was the best selling game in the pseudo-trilogy. Sands of Time, which most fans think was the best, sold pretty poorly. I'm annoyed that they went for WW rather than SoT, but I'm not surprised.

  • maddoom says:

hope this will be full copy of original WW,not anything like cutted RE4.

  • Rosh says:

My question is: will it run on iPhone 3g?

  • jesse says:

    damn, that looks amazing…

  • akira01 says:

    WOW !!!
It seems that's the full game…

  • Brandon says:

    Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou…. I CAN'T WAITE!

  • Miffy says:

why can't you wait? It'll just be another lackluster generic Gameloft game… wish they would shut down all they produce is crap.

    • Alienmario says:

      :P

      • Hitch says:

Ha! What, so you're saying Prince of Persia is a "clone" or something? Prince of Persia is it's own great series already, and Gameloft is just bringing it to the iDevices. Without Gameloft, all we'd be playing was Match 3 games and Doodle games.
        Thank God for Gameloft.

  • George says:

I hope it runs well on my ipt 2g.

  • Noman says:

Is this a port of the psp game or an original game? If it's a real warrior within port then Yay! If it's original, blech.

  • acidbottle says:

first gameloft game ive ever been interested in!

shame its not the 1st one tho .. total classic

  • ed says:

I hope it's not just another pretty tech demo like most Gameloft games. They tend to lack soul…

It does look very fine though.

    • akira01 says:

Their adaptation are often very very good, strictly identical to the original:
      - The Settlers
      - EarthWorm Jim
      etc…

  • MrMuesli says:

HoS re-skinned is my impression from the screen shots. Let's see how it pans out.

    • squarezero says:

That's just silly. The view is much closer to the character, the POV is lower, textures look much richer, there are perspective/environmental effects (notice the dust in front of the prince in the last shot), combat acrobatics are just like in the original game, etc. Check out the PSP version of the same shot a the top of the article: http://www.fileplanet.com/screenviewer.aspx?f=158803.

      • MrMuesli says:

Yes, I see all that, but it still looks sort of Gameloft 'samey' to me…sorry.

    • rev says:

Sorry, but how can this be a 'gameloft samey' to you? You, sir, are clearly not a gamer. This is a exact port of an incredible game. Gameloft had nothing to do with it except having to convert it to iP.

      • Anyonymous says:

correction: warrior within embarrassing bad sequel to an incredible game. sands of time is one of the best games of the last 15 years but didn't sell well because it didn't contain enough blood, guts and sexual innuendo for the immature 13-year-old morons who are the main target audience for the mainstream game industry these days.

also like several other commenters i think the chances that this'll be a port and not another generic slapdash gameloft game with PoP grafted onto it are extremely slim.

and lastly to all the people saying "thank god for gameloft" and the like: your favorite company and their cheap mass-developed knockoffs are one of the main reasons why the idevice will never be taken seriously as a gaming platform. congrats.

      • squarezero says:

"also like several other commenters i think the chances that this'll be a port and not another generic slapdash gameloft game with PoP grafted onto it are extremely slim."

Right, because all their other console ports have been generic slapdash games, too. Heck, Driver might as well have been Asphalt 4, and we all know that Rayman 2 was only HoS reskinned. And Earthworm Jim? Clearly made with the Gangstar engine.

  • akira01 says:

@MrMuesli:"Yes, I see all that, but it still looks sort of Gameloft 'samey' to me"

Nonsense. It's even better than the PSP version here.
If you don't know it's Gameloft, you didn't say that.

    • MrMuesli says:

Can't say I agree tbh. To my eyes the PSP screen shot looks better, but at the end of day it's the game play that will see it through or not, not the visuals. Looking forward to seeing a video: )

  • akira01 says:

@MrMuesli:"To my eyes the PSP screen shot looks better"

So, can you post here "better" PSP screenshots of this game here ?
    That's very simple to do.

  • Name Goes Here says:

    @everybody

Can't we all just get along. :)

  • or says:

this is amazing. a PS2 PORT ! come on gameloft, bring us all ubisoft old catalog

  • Blitsie says:

You know what, this article just gave me an incredible urge to dust off my old copy of the PoP trilogy and start replaying it again…

Can't wait to see more info on this.

  • yourofl10 says:

    Wow, just wow.

  • Stone500 says:

I hope this turns out good, though I'm cautiously optimistic. Plus, why is WW the one being ported? I would've personally preferred SoT.

  • thakool says:

I think they should do an HD remake of the trilogy like god of war collection for ps3 and 360.
