NICE! Haven't heard of a lot of these games but definitely going to pick up Battle for Wesnoth! Man I've been on point with the sales lately :D I'm usually so impulsive but restraint has been paying off lately.

If you're happy with pixie-finger UI, then BfW should be right down your alley. Personally, I found the UI to be really one of the worst I have come across from the 500+ games I have. Admittedly, the scrolling is better (not perfect, but acceptable) since the up-date, but the UI in it's current form, is as far as I can tell basically the pc version slapped onto the iDevice screen. A shame, as I too would love to play BfW on my iPod, but I fear this app is destined to be one of those apps riddled with crash issues and interface problems regardless of the amount of up-dates it receives. I hope I am proved wrong. Personally, I would say, don't be sucked in by the lure of 'content' with this one until a truly iPhone-centric version of this awesome game is delivered.

Be sure to join us in the Wesnoth thread and let me know specifically what needs improvement. Like most people with skinny fingers, I find the UI perfectly acceptable, but I could use tips what you are having problems with so that I can prioritize the updates. Giving useful feedback really helps to improve the game!

        Hi there,
Well, just off the top of my head here are some of the more obvious things I noticed:
        1) The options on the Main Menu screen (Campaign, Skirmish etc) could be bigger. Right now you have all that beautiful art work dominating 90% of the screen, but I'm sure that enlarging the font and touch surface area to a size that we have generally become accustomed to in iDevice games, wouldn't hurt. Or to take it a step further, maybe another option would be one of those zoom Concertina type menu (Touch to access, drag to choose, release over choice to confirm or outside the touch area to cancel).
        2) All the current scrollable menus would benefit greatly from being fully scrollable, and not just restricted to only the scroll bar, which is again something we have become accostomed to.
        3) The In-Game character information on the right hand side currently allows you to access more detailed info by placing your finger over a certain area, but I find it highly frustrating atm to actually bring up what I want. It doesn't help that the same area seems to also respond to scrolling the main map as well as the double tap command. I would suggest disabling the Scroll and Double Tap command there, and incorporate a separate Info Menu (accessed by tapping anywhere in that area) in a reasonably sized font?
        4) A pinch zoom-out function on the main map would be very welcome, as the mini map in the top right is again just too fiddly to be of any real use (I wouldn't miss it if it wasn't there).
        5) 'Recruit' and 'Recall' are used very often. Can you include them with the 'Next Unit' double tap menu?
I have only mentioned a few things that clearly worked fine on the pc version, but once on the tiny real estate that is the iDevice screen, it just becomes a fuss more than anything. Good luck!

Been playing Trace It. Stumbled across it looking for kids games.
The other games look fun - think I'll be downloading a few more games...

I down loaded Traceit the other day, and thought OK fairly simple app, although I did get a lousy score on the hard setting, but my kid loved it (aged 6) and it kept him quiet on the 3 hr drive back from the in-laws on boxing day. Not my thing but great for the kids.

Another free game right now is one called Falling Gems. I got it last night but have not had a chance to try it out yet myself (no ipod touch yet). I'd make a link but do not know how as I'm new to all this. Not my app, but saw the sale somewhere else and had not seen it here and thought I'd mention it.

I wish there was a forum here just for spotting free app deals when they are out, I am getting my first touch here shortly and am needing to build up my app library! :) Nothing like being ready when it get here lol.

i grabbed this game right at when the game came out at $5, Battle for Wesnoth is definitely a steal at 2 bucks.. I know some people complain about controls, scrolling, and crashes on the game but the Developer is actually listens to the complaints and he works on it.. the length of the game like 300 hours, or you could easily say ENDLESS game length.. just grab it for the price of two bags or gummy bears and watch the Developer updating the game to the complete form!!

I picked up DragonEye from the free games, as my wife loves Simon. The sounds are acurate to the original Simon game, and the theme is very nice in my opinion. If you are entertained by the Simon toy, I fully recomend this game. I am probably gonna get sword of fargoal tomorrow when I can get to some wifi, and hopefully one other game.

    I haven't tried any if the pay games, but I'm looking for recomendations;

1.) is BFW going to run like crap on my 3G iPhone? I want it, but I want it to play it, not just to say I have it. :p

2.) is trace it really going to be played by a 2 year old? My 3 year old is amazingly good with the games I play like Nova and NFS: Shift; but my two year old daughter has only one game she plays (cute dogs- you just wipe a black screen to travel dog pics). If she can enjoy this game I really want it.

    • Zaqualieff

Odd as it sounds, yes :-) every time I pop over to my friends house his two year old cant stop playing it, its a hard choice for the guy, play game, stick in mouth, play more, stick in mouth :-)

He actually asks for it when I pop over which always cheers me up :-)

He knows a few words, dad, mum, kim which is me but comes out as km :P cute and the phrase 'me want shapes' which he says to play 'Trace It'.

I think for the young ones it the pictures, colours and ability to draw on the screen that they like...maybe the music... kids love shapes sounds and music :-)

      • Zaqualieff

On a side note Anthony I'd be very interested to see what you think and how both your children react to the Trace It.

I'm mainly trying to develop concepts for you all to play about with and have some fun with, so would really like to make the game into something you all want.

It can be literally anything you want to be honest, the concept is nice and now proven. If any of you feel it could be something more interesting with some changes please do tell me as I am very open to new ideas.

After all the games are for you, they should be what you like :-)

My next game in development at the moment is a completely different game, not even slightly like this. The second one is based on the four thousand or so posts I have read on here since I joined, I think I know what a lot of you want now.
Lets see if I'm right :-) it will be funky me thinks!

        Happy new year!

        Kind Regards,
