'A Skeleton Story' – A Haunting Game Trailer

Skeleton2We normally don't get too excited over teaser trailers, but Italian software house KF lab's video for their upcoming game A Skeleton Story is really quite engrossing. The game is centered around a main character named Will Musil, a detective:

Will plays in a world of the dead and completely alone. He jumps from buildings to buildings all over town trying to kill the thugs who work for the Old Lady (The Death) and avoiding the various obstacles.

The game is said to be structured as part side scrolling platformer and part comicbook with a heavy emphasis on the art and storyline.

According to iSpazio, the game will be delivered in 4 episodes, with the first due in November.

    Just a word: WOW !!!
    Great great style …

  • Future777 says:

Wow this is awesome. Very interested to see the final game.

As long as they translate the VO to other languages, I'm happy :)

    • tsharpfilm says:

I'd rather hear good voice acting in another language than bad voice acting in English. I don't mind reading subtitles.

      • Cougarcat says:

Amen to that…granted, if you don't know the language, you can't really tell if it is bad or not. :)

      • Sniz says:

Um… to be honest you can, when watching any Japanese movies I usually prefer to use subtitles (unless I'm feeling a little lazy) because you can hear the emotion and emphasis of the good Japanese actors.

Surely it'll be worth them getting some good English actors in for this project anyway, considering it would make it more accessible Britain, Ireland, USA, Canada (English speaking :P ) and Australia

BTW… Love the style and look of this game… hope the story and interactivity is as good :D

I'm jumping into this conversation just a bit late, but the fact that it's played out in a different language kind of gives it character, and let's not ignore the setting the game is placed. It's unlike anything I've seen here in America, and I've been to my fair share of historic sites and buildings. I've also been known to watch films with languages of foreign descent WITHOUT the subtitles because the acting was performed so well that their expression told me everything, and I picked up on cognitive words every so often.
I think this game will do wonderfully, translated or not. I might even lose my appreciation for its original appeal if it decided to pull English-speaking voice-overs into the game play. I do agree, however, that it should be made an option to have English subtitles or even an option to turn on an English audio script. As for myself, I prefer the Spanish. :)

Pardon me; Italian, not Spanish. :3 My classes have gotten in the way…

Such a great trailer! Impressive dialogue and style. Unfortunately that doesn't mean it'll be a good game…

  • Colbertj says:

4 paid episodes or free updates? That would be a deal breaker for me.m

    • Cougarcat says:

Why would it be a deal breaker for you? I'm sure they will priced accordingly for the length of gameplay you get. It's not going to be 4.99 for an hourlong episode.

  • JG says:

Didn't see any actual game play…

  • Droiaphone says:

Wow! That was amAAAAAAAAzzing! Too bad that was a trailer for a MOVIE, not a GAME. I guess it's just a teaser, but still, there is no hint of what that game will actually look like. Meh. I guess if it was a lousy match-3 where you had to beat levels to get to the next cut-scene, I'd still buy it.

Sweet cartoons. Very 'triplets of belleville.'

Actually, this game looks very 1111. Or very Rogue Planet. Which means we'll never see it, or they'll release one tiny episode, charge us an arm and a leg for it, and then get distracted developing another game and never release another episode. Ever.

    WOOT!

  • nickcaveman says:

wow, looks really great. something very special.

  • arta says:

Looks amazing, however we're all assuming that the actual ingame art is going to be this incredible. And that it plays well as a platformer.

And nobody has really gotten episodic content right in videogames, much less the Appstore. 1112? Hysteria Project? All overpriced truncated narratives that gave barebones gameplay with no followup. Episodic content only works if you give frequent, scheduled updates.

    • squarezero says:

No question: episodic content is risky for both audiences and developers. I still expect (and will probably enjoy) the next chapter of 1112, but there's no question that experience of the game is marred by the long delay. Let's hope these folks can pull it off.

  • mat says:

    ehhhh..POPETOWN!?!?!

    no one saw the similarities???????

  • intake66 says:

looks awesome! I can't wait to see the final product and game play.

  • Dark NRG says:

    That showed me NOTHING.

Nice movie. Why dont these companies show gameplay instead of cutscenes???
And even as an interactive movie, which it's not apparently being a "sidescroller", even Space Ace didn't get much attention, and that's classic.

  • Love the quality of animation and the art-direction. Hopefully there's a decent game in there as well, I certainly intrigued. I also agree with those that think they should keep the Italian Voice Acting. It just adds to the atmosphere giving it a really cool movie-vibe…

  • -=XX=-Nephilim says:

    Looks amazing! :)

Probably will buy it for artwork alone!

    Love it…

  • jon says:

From the start I knew that episodes were a bad idea. That was why I never bought 1112. And I won't until the complete story is online. I don't want to invest myself in a storyline that never completes.

I'll do the same for this one. I don't care how good it is, promises are broken by devs all the time.

  • Synergistic Ideologue says:

MediEvil (PSX game) + ShadowMan + Grim Fandango

  • MexiChriS says:

Wow, idk how I never seen this before. Good thing I read the "Most Anticipated Games of 2010" cause I'll definitely be on the look out for this!
