New Preview Video of 'Real Racing' [HD Version Added]
posted by arn on February 5th, 2009 11:39 AM EST in Upcoming GamesPocketGamer.co.uk reports on the long awaited racing title Real Racing from Firemint.
Firemint Real Racing puts you on a super-slick racetrack, allowing for either first or third person perspectives of the action. Despite this video being taken of a pre-beta build, the visuals and game speed are out of this world, and they come with the promise of some expansive connectivity features.
We first heard of the game back in August 2008. The game promises to offer a number of features including head-to-head multiplayer over network and also the ability to save and upload your replays.
This new pre-beta video games you an idea of the gameplay. Update: HD version added.

That looks incredible. I'll keep an eye out for it.
HOLY GUACAMOLLY!!!!!! LOOKS OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW!!!! Easily Psp quality!!!!!!
i'm getting this! you will observe though this game should have come out in 08. hope it comes in less than a month. this is one game i'm looking out for! next to nfs
My problem with these racing games is that it SEEMS like the accelerometer would be a great way to control a race car, until you actually try it.
Maybe it's just me but I always end up crashing into walls in these iphone racing games. I don't have that problem on a PC/Console with a wheel or gamepad. Maybe it's something to do with tilting the screen that throws me off.
At any rate, this looks like a pretty nice game, too bad I'm too retarded to be able to play it.
PLEASE! im dying to know can someone tell me when this game is coming out!
I hope this game delivers because Fastlane is a tough act to follow in terms of pure racing addictiveness and feel.
Game rocks!
Video quality sucks! All devs should have access to an HD camera.

@salsaMD: Thanks for the video. That makes a huge difference! This goes on the list.
Yes, thanks for the high quality version link SalsaMD. Looks really good.
Hi all, here's the HD version of the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDcpeeHxgC8 (click the "watch in HD" link under the video) . Enjoy!
@boarder2
Don't make the mistake of tilting the device like a spaz (in extreme directions). Remember: slight tilts is all that is really needed. The only time one definitely needs to tilt to extremes is in racers like Fastlane, and then only when you wish to drift (and you can avoid drifting using that method by using the brake method). It seems to me a lot of people who are having trouble controlling racers using the accelerometer on these devices are not taking it easy. Again, very slight movements are all that is necessary. The complaints remind me of complaints that people had with the Wiimote, and they had to learn to take it easy there as well.
BTW, I saw the vid a while back. Soon as I did, I thought "instant buy", as well as "WTF is taking Sega so long to get Ferrari F355 Challenge on this thing?". Seriously…that vid totally reminded me of Sega's Ferrari racer.
I dunno if I like the sound of racing only on super-slick racetracks. Sounds very frustrating.
Just what we need. Yet another f**king car racing game on the iPhone.
Yay.
Wow, the full HD version really shows the quality of this game. Another one on my list as soon as it comes out.
looks pretty boring. why do I want that kind of a console-type game on my ipod? (same goes with most of psp games)… they replicate what is already there …. I pass
@brof
'why do I want that kind of a console-type game on my ipod? (same goes with most of psp games)…"
The logic of that reply is so elusive that it begs explanation. Do you have a PSP, DS, or PS? I suspect you lie in a strong minority with similar minded iphone/IPT users.
actually I sold my PSP for the second time… great looking games, no doubt, but I can have the same experience on my big consoles with better controls… the DS I am still playing, though….
cheers,
brof
Ah, makes sense then. But for those of us who travel a lot, or don't have a PSP/PS/DS you can surely see the appeal..
