Hands-On Mobile released their first person shooter Prey Invasion [App Store] tonight.
The world is under attack from an alien menace, but they’ve picked on the wrong man and his girlfriend. Tommy Hawk takes no prisoners as he plows through level after level of mutated aliens in search of his loved one. But can he rescue her before she is hideously transformed into one of them?
The game was first revealed back in February with some recent hands-on time at E3. Based on the PC and Xbox game, Prey for iPhone offers 5 levels of first person shooting action that should last you “a couple of hours" in gameplay time.
The game offers a multitude of controls that were detailed in this walk through video:

The game is very good, indeed. But not that masterpiece I was hoping for.
First, great review Hodapp.
Second, I really really really love Real Racing. It is everything the hype built it up to be and the polish on top seals the deal for me.
Granted it is like a Gran Turismo experience, and what I mean by that is that it mimics it in every way save for perfect physics that you might find on a console game.
I'm in love :)
Great review. I completely agree this game is unmatched by anything on the App Store.
Finally, a bit more recognition for this great game. IGN, Pocket Gamer and Slide To Play have all seem to forgotton about this little beauty and skipped on to reviewing Star Defence (which I hate, btw). I remember they all posted good first impressions on their websites, but where are all the reviews?
From the video, i belive this game has very good controls.
Steering require gentle move to the sides, not like others where you violently almost turn it upside down..
Also, it seems to have a perfect framerate..
The biggest problem that I have with it is the amount of content offered. They say, "36 cars in 3 classes" meaning 12 cars per class, when in reality there are two cars per class and then 10 other cars that just have different skins than the original. If the cars are actually different, there should be a diagram of the statistics of each car so that they can be compared. And while the 12 tracks are varied and interesting, I feel that there could still be more, like 20 tracks or something.
I love the game, but I'd say it's much more like Codemaster's excellent TOCA series than Gran Turismo. But without the best racing game on the iPhone to date.
STILL no actual recorded gameplay video?
I don't want to see a mocked-up sliced-together trailer... I wanna see a "real" video before I splash the cash on this one. It's TA's excellent videos that usually determine whether I get a game or not. ;)
Brett: There are videos all over cloudcell and youtube, straight from the game. Maybe you should look harder next time.
I have NFSU on my iPHone and a friend of mine just downloaded RR so I can compare both. In my opinion NFSU gives more fun "beyond" the racetrack to the gamer. It's a pitty that new unlocked cars in RR arent really different to the ones you already have, except for the colors. If you would have unlocks like faster cars, special cars or whatever this game would be a BLAST..technicaly its awseome. I like the race feeling, the detailed controls, the drifting..feels very very realistic for an iphone game.
Maybe an update will do something? So long I stay with NFSU
If they include a mini-map, I hope it's an optional feature.
It's to much of a hand hold.
Just learn the course.
"Keep it real".....as the kids say today.
Well both games are actually very different. RR is more simulatic and NFS has the feeling of arcade. Me, i have downloaded both of them to compare. I must say that i just can't have some fun with NFS. For me it's quite boring. Don't know why, maybe i don't like the gameplay.
On the other hand there is RR. It makes really fun to drive rounds on the courses and i'm really enjoying the bucks i've spent into it. Highly recommended!

That's me playing the game, the only drawback to this video is it does not record you racing against other cars. I wish it would but it only records your time trials or your ladder races where there are no others on the track.
The whole point of the classes of cars in real racing is so that you to race opponents in a very similar car, so that the focus is on skillful driving not having better wheels. Most racing games allow you to race in faster cars than the opponent, thus making it easier to win. The whole point of real racing is that you have to beat the opponents based on skillful driving.
Oh and you do get drift, ALOT and the cars that you upgrade to are faster and more powerful. The hatchback is easier to control because it is slower. I did the same track with the sedan just now and it was much harder to control.
I absolutely love this game. The only two things i would include would be the minimap and the ability to customize your car whether it be cosmetically, Performance, and/or both.
as I look at this, I was wondering about an iphone version of Burnout... aaaah EA, do something...
I've been playing this since it came out, and it is indeed the best racer on the iPhone by far. Technically it's very impressive for an iPhone game, but it's still silly to say it's PSP quality given how good Gran Turismo PSP looks. (and that one runs at 60fps) Still, it's clearly better than anything the DS could generate.
As for the reviewer singling out the AI, I would do that too, but for entirely different reasons. I find the AI very annoying, as to be blunt, they drive like complete psychopaths. Overtaking them often results in being rammed into repeatedly until you end up on the grass or into a barrier, - an action which would disquality any driver in real life... I suspect they are simply unaware of the player's position and take their lines regardless, and as they have near infinite mass the poor player stands no chance.
A few other complaints - the game forgets my settings every time I load it, forcing me to re-enter them every time. Also the music is terrible, but thankfully it can be silenced. There's no place for music in a less arcadey racer like this anyway.
this game is great, never thought that such good looking game could work on iphone :)
I'm beyond impressed with this game. Most racing games I've tried have been really clunky to drive, but this one is near flawless. I almost forget I'm "steering" with the phone. Firemint doesn't mess around.
Like Ataru, I've also been playing this since it came out and agree completely with his/her assessment: Real Racing is by far the best racer on the platform, but the AI is terrible (too much ramming - track drivers simply do not behave this way. Some tracks are particularly bad for this - McKinley, for example), I hate having to constantly reset settings that should be remembered, and I wish I could go straight to the main menu screen when starting up without title movie to skip, question about audio, etc.
Despite the above complaints, I am enjoying the game quite a bit, and hope Firemint will listen to its customers and continue to update and improve the title.
Converted back to $US, it ends up being $12.32 in Japan. I'm getting tired of having to pay more for every game based on a strong American currency which got weak over 6 months ago.
One of the first things I noticed was the AI. I was surprised when the computer opponents tried to run me off the track, then I continued to be surprised when I noticed they kept doing it. They really do feel like they're competing and not just going around the track.
I'm beyond impressed so far.
A a lite version, please, taking into the not-that-raving review of some of the gamers. I, who have purchased almost all the racing games for my iPhone 3G (asphalt, NFS while it was still $10 and a lot more) just don't want to purchase something that received so mixed reviews. So: a lite version please - or a massive price drop ;)
too bad it crashes *NON STOP* on iTouch 2nd Gen (what I have; can't say for other iDevices). I really wish it was mentioned more (although to the reviewer's defense, he tested it on iPhone 3G).
on iTouch 2G, Real Racing crashes ALL. THE. TIME. It's very VERY frustrating to have your 10$ game suddenly quit when you're going through the last stretch of a five-lap race, only to have it crash again some 20 minutes later when you're playing another race.
Firemint, fix this PRONTO, and I mean, like, RIGHT NOW, because this is unacceptable. Other than this slight (MAJOR) problem, the game is great, looks great, plays great. A real winner.. IF FIXED.
This game is hands down the best game on the iDevice so far.
I see plenty of people complaining about the controls being too sensitive, or the AI being too aggressive and here's what I say to those people; You have been fooled by incredibly shoddy tilt controls in every other racing game so far, and actually having to use the accelerometer properly for the first time is making you re-evaluate your level of skill at driving games. You have also had your hand held when driving against all other AI in driving games - this game actually requires you to beat the AI based on performance (apexing turns, learning the tracks, finding the sweet spot between understeer and perfect traction), not shoddy rubber-banding or guaranteed performance bonuses via car mods (or worse, nitros).
I get the feeling that most of the people with negative feelings towards the title haven't really played it past the first track, haven't tried changing the accelerometer sensitivity to get it to a point where it's comfortable for them, haven't unlocked all the tracks and car types (which takes about 30 minutes), haven't looked into online leagues or cloudcell, and were firmly decided on having a negative opinion on the game from before it was released due to some bizarre brand loyalty to either the NFS franchise or more hilariously, Fastlane.
I just unlocked the Zannoil Hatch this morning (beating the second championship on "A" difficulty) and it looks awesome. I don't know how many other people have it, but judging by the cloudcell site and the replays available, not many. Just beating the AI on the hardest difficulty was an epic battle in itself. I only ever felt like I lost because of my mistakes, not, as some would tell you, because the AI was mindlessly ramming me.
(A note here - you absolutely have to turn Brake-assist OFF. I've been using control method B and it suits me perfectly. I don't know how possible it would be to beat the game using any other control style, but maybe that's just me.)
I've had a couple of crashes (usually after 8-9 races), and I wish the audio settings would save on each load - other than those two issues, this game is simply amazing!
Long live Real Racing, the king of racing games!
@belsunce
Has never crashed once on my 2nd gen touch. Maybe it's just YOUR touch!!!
NO NO NO NO! (To all the people who have said in various posts that this game needs a mini map!) It has a practice lap option in the career mode and also a quick race option that provides practice- in addition to the time trial modes. Real Racing is a SIMULATION! There are no mini maps in real life. Memorizing the tracks is what adds to the realism/fun/difficulty. JUST SAY "NO!" TO MINI MAPS!
@TommyGunn88: are you dissing my Touch?? is that what's going on here?
lol but no seriously, I have over 20 games and this is the first and ONLY one that's behaving this way. And if you check forums and reviews, I'm not the only Touch user experiencing this problem. I guess you can consider yourself lucky ;)
@ Dogmeat:
The user-created / Cloudcell replay videos only show ONE car, so I get no idea of the ruthless AI that everyone seems to be talking about.
Also, those videos are low-quality, so I get no idea of the quality of the graphics when shown in motion, at a good quality.
And I would also like to see the start-up screen(s) and menu-interactions.
Do you understand now?
A response to Killerwang comments above:
I don't profess to be anything near the world's greatest driver, but I do understand performance/track driving, and I do take my cars to the track in real life. I find your comments a bit condescending. The game's AI is unrealistic; when I'm simply holding my line on a track, for example, in real life, or in other good sims (GTR Evo, GT2, rFactor, LFS, etc.), the other drivers simply will NOT crash into me for no good reason. McKinley is particularly bad – it's more bumpercar than racing car on that track.
Incidentally, this isn't just a case of sour grapes; as of last night when I last checked, I was ranked 30th overall on CloudCell, and had times for at least 3 tracks in the top 5 “All Time Best” (my name on CloudCell differs from this one). I realize that there's definitely room for improvement there, but just wanted to point out that not all of us who dislike the AI are noobs who don't know anything about driving/racing.
From the beginning I've been playing control method B, brake assist off, and generally really love the game. (It's the only thing even close to a pocketable racing sim.) But the AI issue is real, and annoying.
great game!
I just have a problem. i played the game career just normal but now when i finish the race it goes back to main menu(in the game) without saving results, so i am stuck and cannot progress further. it does say sometimes that i have a file error and i should sync, and i do it and it syncs ok, but then again not saving results. does anyone have any clues why is this happening?
Thanks
I'm holding off until my 3G S arrives to pick this game up.
Game it's awesome. Crashes? not a single one on my iTouch 1st gen. AI: far from perfect, but not to a point to ruin the game experience. Some problem while sych...50% of the times doesn't work at 1st try and have to redo it a few times. Curiosity: how does this video upload work? I always publish them from their website and it seems that after every race the reply is sent out to cloudcell...so a lot of data used...but I'm not sure since I use wi-fi on my touch. You cannot select which one you want to send and which not?
I cannot express more how much this game fufilled my spirit in the gaming node for the iphone/itouch
well done i hope to see more developers take notice on what we as gamers want and hope they can provide.
spot on review
"Just like on XBOX Live, how you would ram someone’s rear corner as they pass you to try to make them lose control..."
Way to encourage XBOX Live lameness. I'm here to tell you that this type of driving will get you booted in any respectable lobby.
Real Racing is novel - gotta fix the crash bugs though.
We have similar opinions. Check out my review. http://fleshandgames.com/ap...
Real Racing is by far the best racing game for iPhone and iTouch. The graphics are very impressive and the gameplay transmits a racing sensation quite close to reality, but I've found a serious failure in game. The speedometer just appears when you are playing in the cockpit view mode, and for a race game this is not acceptable. I hope a update may fix this error. The speed fans will enjoy this game.
salut ca va
waht does that mean
Real racing is very good game also in my kitchen have good dog to who play a ball for passing my studies in grades school but my teacher resign and get married the car and jump very high and fall down to the beach and eaten by a ant a lot black ant will run for their life.
