Apple’s Back to School promo this year is expected to kick off on June 3rd, 2008. Last year, the annual promotion offered college students a free iPod ($199 value) when buying a qualifying Mac (basically, any Mac except the mini).
This year, Apple’s promo is expected to be their biggest ever… and we’ve heard this means an iPod touch ($299 value) will be given for free to qualifying buyers.
If true, this means Apple’s Touch OS X platform is going to absolutely explode in marketshare over the next 3 months. Along with the 3G iPhone, which is widely expected, every college student buying a Mac this summer will also be getting a device capable of running applications off the iTunes App Store.
Developers should take note at the potential audience Apple is building.
It’s True: Details at Apple
you can't blame then fir wanting to add ads to their games. If this means that the games stay free then I say go for it.
I'm cool with that. People have to make money somehow. I hope people use this wisely and it doesn't spin out of control.
Such as ads largely skewing file size.
Ads popping up frequently throughtout the game.
Ads getting in the way of the experience and or making it so that it the app is unusable due to the apps. (ex. ad server is down so the game does not start)
Anyways, I hope they can handle it. :D Free or lower cost apps for everyone.
I can't wait to open up an app and hear "Congratulations you won a free iPod Nano"
All kidding aside this is good news for iPhone/iPod Touch users. With ads in apps it will mean cheaper, if not free, applications for the device. Sure there will be ads in the free stuff, but they can always do like the icon factory and have a free and premium version, without ads..
Oh jeez. Ads are everywhere already. I don't want them in games.
And I doubt Apple would let them do it. Apple wants a cut of the profits from everything on the App store, and ads would be a way of getting around Apple's up-front cut.
I don't want ads in games. Jirbo games suck anyway! Free they are too much!
