Apple just revealed the top apps and games across iOS, macOS, Apple Arcade, and tvOS for 2021 as has been the case each December. Last year, Genshin Impact from miHoYo was Apple’s iPhone Game of the Year. This year, League of Legends: Wild Rift (Free) is Apple’s iPhone Game of the Year while Marvel Future Revolution is Apple’s pick for iPad Game of the Year. League of Legends: Wild Rift finally arrived in more regions beginning this year and hopefully it hits a full worldwide launch by early 2022. The pick isn’t surprising given how polished League of Legends: Wild Rift is on mobile. Marvel Future Revolution can be quite a looker as well with its environments and animations but I didn’t expect it to win for iPad given we literally had Divinity Original Sin 2 hit iPad this year. Apple’s Apple Arcade Game of the Year is unsurprising with the awesome Fantasian winning. I’ve been covering Fantasian for a while now across its dripfeed reveals to post launch updates and more. Check out Shaun’s review of Fantasian here. Even if you don’t play Fantasian, you owe it to yourself to check out the art and music. Both are superlative. For macOS, Apple picked the MYST remake that recently hit multiple platforms including macOS, Xbox, and more. I haven’t tried MYST on macOS, but I have played it on Xbox and it is quite gorgeous. On the Apple TV side of things, Apple picked Pixelbite’s Space Marshals 3 as Apple TV Game of the Year for 2021.
Apple’s App Trends of 2021 included Among Us for how it brought everyone together. It is going to be interesting to see what 2022 brings for the App Store and Apple Arcade. I hope the latter gets more original games from genres we saw during the service’s first year. What were your favourite games of 2021 across all platforms?
