Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. As we’ve generally seen the last little while, today’s batch is a mix of free-to-play service games, Apple Arcade titles, and one or two regular paid games. That seems to be the general flow of the market, not much I can do about it. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!
FINAL FANTASY IV, $17.99 I wish I could tell you this was a big update that improved the font and added controller support, but that would be lying to you like Kain lies to himself. Instead, this update fixes and improves a few things. It’s easier to get a Pink Tail now, for one thing. Summoning magic drops a little easier, and you can buy the Siren item that helps you meet rare monsters from certain shops. You can also switch to another character if their turn is up just by tapping them. Beyond that, it’s mainly some bug fixes for things likes enemy shadows, sound effects, and some timing issues with the ATB system.
UNO!â„¢, Free Hello, UNO Master Shaun here again. My years of practice against the kids I teach have made me nigh-invulnerable in this game. I am here to relay to you the latest additions to the iOS UNO! app. Halloween! It’s Halloween soon. There is a Halloween event in this game to celebrate that, and you can play it right now. The 10th season has also kicked off, and a new feature has been added that lets you see the status of people you’ve recently invited.
MARVEL Future Revolution, Free We’ve got a couple of Marvel games to look at this week, and this one is doing a Halloween-ish thing with its update. In Dark Domain Part 1, Dormammu comes to crash the party. I’m afraid he hasn’t come to bargain. In addition to that event, there’s a new Blitz update, a new original costume series, some Dark Doman Region costumes and Omega Cards, an increase in the level cap, and more. Uh, yes Dormammu is Halloween-ish. He looks like he has a stupid flaming pumpkin for a head. Whatever, next game!
MARVEL Strike Force: Squad RPG, Free Well, this isn’t Halloween-ish at all. Three new playable characters here: Omega Red, Lady Deathstrike, and Silver Samurai. Yes, it’s going to be that kind of event. Some ability and stat improvements for Wolverine and Sabertooth, a new Weapon X costume for Wolverine, a Dawn of X costume for Cyclops, and an Ancient Pharaoh costume for Venom. All of this is tied in with the new Omega Red Mythic Legendary event, The Red Death. Naturally there is also some new gear, a new raid, and a whole lot of bug fixes. No Spider-Man stuff, unfortunately. No, the new costume for Venom doesn’t really count.
Disney Heroes: Battle Mode, Free Ha ha, so many products of the Disney corporation in today’s article. Look, they do lots of updates and I want to get home in time for dinner. That’s just how it goes some weeks. At any rate, let’s see what deep pulls they’ve grabbed for new characters this time. Ariel from The Little Mermaid? Honestly somewhat surprised she wasn’t already in here, but okay. And… Gadget from Rescue Rangers? That’s a little more interesting. Her many online fans will be thrilled, I’m sure. Aside from the new characters, you really just get some bug fixes and performance improvements.
Gardenscapes, Free Tomorrow is do or die. Either Mr. Sakurai announces Austin the ‘Scapes Butler is the final fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, or I have to face the reality that he’s never getting added to the game. Fingers crossed. As for this update, it’s about what you would expect. A Halloween event, some new story stuff, some bonuses for people who buy the Golden Ticket, a new area or two, lots of cool decorations to collect, and a new puzzle element. Clouds clog up the fields, and you need to make matches next to them to clear them up. Go, Austin! You can do it!
LEGO® Brawls, LEGO Brawls is getting in on the Halloween stuff, as you would expect. This game rarely misses a beat. The Brick-or-Treat event returns from last year, with lots of spooky levels and a whole bunch of candy-gathering. There are five weeks’ worth of happenings, but you’ve probably already missed one if you’re just getting in on this now. Also new in this update are Brick Battles. Each week has a new Costume Contest where you pick your favorite costumed minifig and slug it out to earn trophies for your team. At the end of it, the winning team will score a cool reward.
PAC-MAN Party Royale, I mean, is it really a battle royale game if you can’t customize your character with ridiculous outfits? Pac-Man finally gets in on that action with brand new outfits you can unlock and use to make your Pac your own. Hats, gloves, and boots are all available, which is an impressive array of fashion options for a fellow who used to just be a circle with a mouth. You get them by winning seven Battle Arena games in a week. Not so hard, right? Right. There are also some new achievements, along with a few of the usual fixes and enhancements.
Legends of Kingdom Rush - RPG, Is this also Halloween-ish? Wait, is this the first time this game has appeared in these update articles? Congratulations, Legends of Kingdom Rush RPG. You’ve officially made it. Made it to what or where, I cannot say. But It, you have made. This update is called the Wild Moon update. You have to battle Mor-Ga-Nok and the Ashervan Coven through a new adventure map in Silveroak Forest. A new legend has been added in the form of Bravebark, and the latest companion is the Sylvan Elf. All this, plus some new achievements and secrets to uncover. Sure, I’ll have a spoonful of that.
DRAGON QUEST TACT, Free We’ll finish things off with another newcomer to this feature, Dragon Quest Tact. I love Dragon Quest, but I’m kind of burnt out on this kind of affair so I’ve played very little of this game. The update has a lot of small points that perhaps add up to a lot for players, however. An Auto-Rematch feature has been implemented, you no longer lose Stamina if you lose or abandon a battle, a new system called Talent Blossoming has been added, there are new quests and missions, and so on. More little things that I’ll let you check out if you’re interested. As I’m still holding on to it and this is the last entry, I guess I’m giving this game the coveted UMMSotW award for the week. How anti-climactic!
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
