Shiro Games, who you might be familiar with by way of their awesome era-traveling RPGs Evoland and Evoland 2, released a stunning Viking-themed strategy simulation called Northgard on PC back in 2018. You play as a clan of Vikings who discover a bountiful new land called Northgard and set out to inhabit it. You’ll do that by building a settlement, assigning jobs to various members of your clan to help the settlement grow, and collecting and managing resources so that you can survive through the harshest of winters and against Northgard’s fearsome indigenous creatures. After being well-received on PC, Northgard made its way to consoles last year, and now courtesy of Playdigious it’ll be making its way to iOS and Android devices soon. Here’s a teaser for the mobile version followed by Northgard’s original PC release trailer just so you can get more of an idea of what the game is like.
Northgard seems like the kind of game that will work beautifully on the touchscreen, and as someone who hasn’t played it previously it seems like a really neat mixture of real-time strategy, city-building, and Norse Mythology storytelling. Playdigious has already brought Shiro’s previous Evoland games to mobile, and of course they’ve brought heavy hitters like Dead Cells and Teslagrad to mobile, so if they’re deciding to bring a game to the mobile platform it’s probably safe to assume it’s a very good game indeed. No release date has been set just yet but you can sign up to be notified when Northgard launches on either iOS or Android over at the game’s official site here, and Playdigious says that more news about the mobile version will be coming in the following weeks.
