Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. Well, I can at least say that today’s selection includes a lot of popular games if nothing else. If you like your games as a service, you were well-served last week. I’ve collected some of the ones that interested me for you to mull over as you eat your morning breakfast. Or brunch? Not sure when this will be posted. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper or by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!
SEGA Heroes: RPG Match 3 Games, Free Up until now, one tab on the main menu of SEGA Heroes has gone unused. Well, it’s now working, sort of. Guilds are now live in SEGA Heroes and although what they’re actually going to be for remains somewhat mysterious, you can now make and join a guild. Like our very own TouchArcade guild, for example. This update also makes it so that you can tackle the Beyondering stages even if you don’t have an eligible character of each color. You probably won’t get too far like that, but hey.
Bacon – The Game, Free It feels like the stellar vigor people once had for throwing bacon on objects has cooled as of late. This update comes just in time to get people interested again in tossing pig bits at stuff. You can look forward to 30 new levels of frustration and fun in the ever-loving Bacon – The Game manner. I, uh… guess I’d better beat the levels that were added last time so I can see what new silliness awaits.
Marvel Contest of Champions, Free Marvel villains tend to get around a bit, but some characters are more associated with particular heroes than others. While I know Annihilus has faced off against the Avengers and others at times, I tend to think of him most as a Fantastic Four antagonist. So when the Fantastic Four were formally welcomed back to Marvel apps earlier this year, I suspected it would just be a matter of time before the self-proclaimed ruler of the Negative Zone arrived. And here he is, in a story that introduces the Human Torch and Annihilus. This update also makes a new Back Issue available and makes a host of bug fixes and balance adjustments.
Knights Chronicle, Free I find it amusing when the update notes and descriptions for some of these social RPGs retain the formatting of their original language even if it looks weird in English. Knights Chronicle heads into its second season where you can “Awaken" Damian and Ashley, the leaders of the Dark and White Knights, and play a new Epic Quest for “Meril". The description uses square brackets instead of quotation marks, but yeah, it is odd either way. Anyway, there are also some new Drayan heroes and a new Advent Dungeon, so enjoy, I guess?
Respawnables - Special Forces, Free Spring is in the air and that means Easter updates are going to start trickling out. Here’s Respawnables leading the way with its… Robotic Easter Eggs from another dimension? Uh, someone probably needs to lay off the sugar over at Digital Legends. Anyway, destroy the eggs to earn prizes like the Bombardier Bow, which I’m sure is quite a lovely bow. If you’d rather let your money do the talking, you can pick up the Easter Burrow Pack and give yourself a leg up on the enemies. This update also adds new weekly challenges and prizes to go after.
Subway Surfers, Free Time moves forward and the Subway Surfers kids just keep on moving with it. Maybe tomorrow they’re going to settle down, but until tomorrow, they’ll just keep moving on. Where to this time? Zurich! Check out the mountains while enjoying Easter decorations on the streets. Pick up two new characters, the inventor Hugo and the terrifying robo-rabbit Rabbot. There’s also a new board to try and earn, the Clockwork Board. Is there anything especially Easter-like about Zurich or is this just how the calendar timing worked out? I don’t know, but I know this: I’ll be seeing Rabbot in my nightmares for a long while to come.
Clash of Clans, Free Clash of Clans: still around, still making money hand over fist. Generally, the most exciting new things aren’t detailed in the update notes for this game, but rather are rolled out in-game. But oh well, there’s only so much I’m going to put into this, you have to understand. Thus, you’ll have to be content with knowing that the latest update has added Season Challenges, a new mode where you can earn some cool rewards. Finish Season Challenges with Gold Pass and you’ll earn a new exclusive Hero Skin each month. Upgrade time and costs have been reduced so you can build yourself up faster, and a few other cool things are included in this update that will be rolled out in the future.
Matchington Mansion, Free I wish I could make sense of why some games become suddenly popular. I guess everyone does, right? We’d all live like rich bandit kings and queens if we could. Anyway, this game is popular now. Very popular. Part of that might be down to how fast it’s updating, and how much each update brings with it. This one has more than 80 new levels, a new room to fix up and decorate, and some bug fixes. You won’t see any of this until you reach level 3400. Like, think about that. This game isn’t even that old.
WWE SuperCard - Battle Cards, Free Haha, well, sometimes the update is on time but my summary comes a little late. Wrestlemania 35 was of course yesterday, but if for some reason you’re still feeling the hype, you can check out the latest update for WWE Supercard. It has some new Wrestlemania 35 cards with such Superstars as Triple H, AJ Styles, Aleister Black, Ricochet, Seth Rollins, and others. Those who enjoy peak performance will be happy to hear that you can now turn on a 60 FPS mode if your device supports it. There are also some new Signature Move animations along with an assortment of bug fixes.
TRANSFORMERS: Forged to Fight, Free Transformers: Forged to Fight celebrates its second anniversary with some special rewards and, for long-time players, an Anniversary Relic. A new Challenge Mission has been added to the game, and Alliance Mission Maps have been reworked to make them a bit tougher at the higher levels. A bunch of characters have also been updated and rebalanced, so be prepared for a minor shake-up of sorts. Did Grimlock get stronger or weaker? Ha, must be the former. Me Grimlock only move in one direction!
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. Oh, and I gave no coveted UMMSotW award this week because none of these updates lit a fire in my soul. C’mon, you’ve got to work for it, games! As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
