Nintendo announces a delay for ‘Mario Kart Tour’ on iOS and Android

As we get closer to the end of March (this financial year), everyone was wondering where Mario Kart Tour was. Nintendo announced Mario Kart was coming to the App Store and Google Play in the ofrm of Mario Kart Tour a while ago. It was set to release before the end of March. Today, Nintendo’s financials are going on in Japan with them giving everyone updates on million sellers on consoles and mobile games.

Mario Kart Tour has officially been delayed to Summer 2019. The reason for the delay is to improve the quality of the game. I was pretty skeptical of the End March window because we haven’t even seen anything for the game yet. Nintendo is capable of announcing and releasing something in a very short period though so there was always the possibility of it being shown off in February for a March 2019 release. That didn’t work out in the end. Hopefully we get some information about it soon.

Super Mario Run wasn’t even remotely close to being as successful as Nintendo’s Fire Emblem Heroes. Don’t expect a premium one time unlock or paid release for when Mario Kart hits the App Store. We will likely have a dedicated Nintendo Direct for it as we get closer to the release showcasing the game.

If it’s not premium I don’t care when it comes out, I’ll gladly keep playing a real Mario Kart game on the Switch.

Sell “Seasons” for racing, not a bucket of micro IAP’s.

As much as I love Nintendo, Super Mario Run is the only one I bought. I don't like microtransactions and hope that Mario Kart doesn't use them.

You can bet on it that they use micro transactions in the game, I don’t like them either but Nintendo is still a business and the people that make these games need to be paid. I rather pay upfront for a game but seeing the AppStore the last few years the amount of “FTP” games are overwhelming. It seems that free to play games are very profitable.

You're probably right, but I hope you're not.

I wouldn't mind if they set up a pay to speed up grind (unlock characters, tracks, etc) as long as the grind isn't too bad. I'd even pay once in a while for new tracks or something.

I'm just against paying for time to play where you can play a brief time and then you have to pay or wait to recharge lives. Also against pay to win where things are set up as too hard without paying for power ups. Both of those just suck the fun out of a game.

Being Nintendo, I do think they'll strike a good balance.

I’m looking forward to this one. I don’t see myself investing money or time, but I’ll definitely play it.

Crazy how well DL did in 2018, considering it was released in Oct and is still limited to certain areas... I've been having a blast with it, and would love to see it overtake FEH in 2019.
