We’ve been covering the upcoming Harry Potter: Wizards Unite for quite some time now. Details have been few and far between other than some fairly obvious teases in that it’s going to be a real world augmented reality game that very likely is going to play like Niantic’s other hit Pokemon Go. Well, the game’s web site is now online, which allows folks to pre-register and offers some additional snippets on the setting of the game.
Something called the “Calamity" is coming, and it’s up to the players, err, wizards of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite to fix it. You’ll be joining the “Statute of Secrecy Task Force" which is “a new task force formed in partnership between the Ministry of Magic and the International Confederation of Wizards." From the sounds of it, instead of catching Pokemon you’ll be wandering the earth looking for “magical disorders" and dealing with them using your collection of wands and/or spells?
Pokemon Go took the world by storm because of the novel gameplay concept combined with a god-tier IP… And if there’s one other IP that’ll motivated loads of people to get out to play a game like that it’s the Harry Potter universe. No details on when the game will launch beyond “2019," but we’re awful close to it being next year so maybe it’ll come sooner rather than later.
