Welcome to your SwitchArcade Roundup for October 26th, 2018. It’s your 1UP boy, Phil here to deliver a last batch of news, new releases, and discounts on the eShop before we close out this week together. In the news today, some Switch-related Resident Evil news, Vampyr plans to take a bite out of the Switch, and Team Sonic Racing hits a speed bump and drives off in to 2019. Before we get to all that, it’s time for a very special Game of the Day, and I don’t mean like one of those “very special Growing Pains" episodes where Jason Seaver finds a joint in Mike Seaver’s backpack.
Game of the Day
Super Mario Odyssey ($59.99)
Sometimes there’s a rhyme or reason for me to talk about a specific game for the Game of the Day, and today is one of those such times. Super Mario Odyssey celebrates its one-year anniversary tomorrow, and since we won’t be here over the weekend, it’s a perfect time to talk about the game now!
I found the abundance of Power Moons to collect to be addicting to nab. It’s easy to stumble upon dozens in one’s first visit to a world (or kingdom as they’re called in the game), but the more cryptic and challenging ones are all the most rewarding to earn. Sure, you can just rush through Super Mario Odyssey getting the bare minimum Power Moons necessary to progress to new kingdoms within the game and clear the story, but you rob yourself of the majority of creative challenges–both platforming and puzzle–that the game contains.
At the same time, having so many Power Moons at the ready to collect allows even beginning and/or less skilled players a chance to make progress, too. You can essentially customize your own difficulty and experience. If one Power Moon challenge is too arduous to collect, you can just go after a different one within the same kingdom. Those who want a hefty challenge will, however, want to get as many Power Moons as possible–especially so they can try out the ultra-challenging final post-game kingdom in Odyssey.
Super Mario Odyssey offers a Mario with the most mobility in a 3D Mario (and no, I’m not talking about the portability of the Switch!). Not only can he perform his standard Super Mario 64 repertoire of moves such as back flips, triple jumps, wall jumps, somersaults, etc, but with use of his fellow confidant in his adventure, a talking hat named Cappy, Mario can combine moves together. For instance, Mario can perform a running leap off the edge of a platform, then toss Cappy forward so he can dive on top of the hat to bounce off, and get enough distance to clear a chasm that he might not have otherwise been able to cross. Just don’t get too comfortable with Cappy, as there are some bonus courses that remove him from Mario’s arsenal, making the challenge as old-school 3D Mario as possible.
Cappy is neither just there for fashion nor as an extra step in midair for Mario to leap off of–the immensely creative gameplay element of having the portly plumber chuck Cappy at foes in order to “capture" them and have Mario take control of them is also a use of Mario’s new hat. As a quick example, in an early kingdom within the game, Mario can throw Cappy at a chained-up Chain Chomp, allowing the player to take direct control of it. By then pulling back on the chain as far as possible, Mario can use the Chain Chomp to not only sling shot and slam into other enemies but also open up passageways otherwise blocking his progress. Essentially every enemy in Super Mario Odyssey–save for a handful or so–can be captured by Cappy and thus controlled by Mario, opening up a multitude of clever usages and platforming ideas because of this gameplay mechanic.
Super Mario Odyssey is one of my favorite games that I’ve played in a long while, and this stays true even a year later after its release. I know because I’ve just finished the game for the third time! I could honestly gush about the game for an entire SwitchArcade Roundup, but we do have to get to the News of the day. Super Mario Odyssey is one of the Switch’s best titles and my second favorite game from last year. The amount of satisfaction, joy, and comfort I got while playing Super Mario Odyssey is really unparalleled to any other game I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying within the last five years. Call it the Mario magic, the Nintendo magic, or what have you, but Super Mario Odyssey‘s certainly has it–whatever it is!
News
Evil will take up residence on the Switch in a big way in 2019
After much anticipation and wishful thinking from Switch owneers, Capcom delivers fantastic news for Resident Evil fans on Nintendo’s latest console. Three Resident Evil games: Resident Evil 4, the original Resident Evil remake, and Resident Evil 0 are heading to the Switch, with more news to come. Despite not being a huge horror fan, Resident Evil 4 remains one of my favorite games of all time. I imagine this will be my fifth time buying a version of the game. Yes, I have a fever and the only prescription is more Resident Evil 4.
Capcom is bringing multiple fan favorites to Nintendo Switch! Resident Evil, Resident Evil 0, and Resident Evil 4 will each be launching on Nintendo Switch in 2019! We'll have more info soon!

Focus Home Interactive and Dontnod Entertinament plan to bring Vampyr to the Switch
We’re not done scaring up news here at the SwitchArcade Roundup. No, no–we’ve only just begun! Vampyr originally released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC this past summer. Now, it’s been revealed that the game will arrive on the Switch. Dontnod Entertainment is the developer of the game, perhaps better known for its work on Life Is Strange. While no release date info nor a Switch trailer was unveiled, Switch owners get an idea on what to expect with this Vampyr launch trailer for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions.
ARK: Survival Evolved gets release date and accompanying trailer
ARK: Survival Evolved was previously announced for the Switch, but many have been patiently waiting for a release date. Now, the wait is over with an official release date announcement and subsequent trailer. ARK: Survival Evolved launches worldwide on the Nintendo Switch on November 30th. Now, we just have to wait and see if the game can actually run adequately on the Switch. Fingers crossed, but not at the moment, because that would make typing up the rest of this Roundup quite difficult!
Team Sonic Racing officially sees a delay
Originally planned for release this winter, Team Sonic Racing has been delayed, as both Sega and developer Sumo Digital put more work in to the game to make it the best it can possibly be. After reading previews from both gamers and members of the press, this might not be the worst thing to happen with the game. The new release date is set for May 21st, 2019. A bit of a delay and a bit of a wait, but here’s hoping said delay makes said wait all the more worthwhile.
Yooka-Laylee shows off its 64-bit Tonic in action with this new video
One of Yooka-Laylee‘s promised features is coming soon. This update will add a new tonic to use, changing the graphics of the game in to a familiar 64-bit style, just like a certain game that Yooka-Laylee was modeled after. Clearly, I’m talking about Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire. No release date has been pinned down, but Switch owners shouldn’t have too much longer of a wait now.
New Releases
My Hero One’s Justice ($59.99)
Based off the popular manga/anime My Hero Academia, My Hero One’s Justice (not the most elegant name to say, but I have no right to judge with MY last name!) is a 3D arena fighter putting fan favorite characters from the show against one another in epic clashes and dynamic showdowns. While the game does not have an English dub, which may bum some prospective buyers out, My Hero One’s Justice does have enough action and intensity to it to get anyone pumped.

And here I thought Halloween was coming up, but instead it seems Christmas has come early on the eShop with a sackful of discounted games. I’m drowning in all of these games! There are so many great titles in this lineup today that I’d be doing all of you a disservice by only highlighting a couple. Check out all discounts on offer, and definitely be cognizant of the deals ending over the weekend and on Monday.
