‘Nicki Minaj: The Empire’ Lets You Record Your Rap, For Better or Worse

TouchArcade Rating:

We’ve seen quite a few celebrity-based games in recent years, from Kim Kardashian: Hollywood to Katy Perry Pop and Britney Spears: American Dream, and all of them were nothing but the same mechanics dressed in each celebrity’s brand. Nicki Minaj: The Empire (Free) has joined the party of celebrity games, but this time around there’s a new addition to the formula and one appropriate for a game based on a singer; you can actually sing and record your voice. Now, whether that’s a good thing, only your shower knows. The game comes with quite a few beats – some free and some cost in-game money – and you can use those beats to record your own rap. There’s a Beatbook (think Facebook) that lets you store your own verses and hear other player’s raps. And apparently Nicki Minaj will be giving shout-outs on the best raps of the month.

Now this whole idea might not be your thing, but I’m glad to see social games likes these ones start to add new elements and break the mold. The game has some other cool ideas like real-time chat at various in-game locations and more. Again, even though it’s not my kind of game, I’m glad to see the developers trying to innovate a bit.

      Nice!

Chapters + Metroidvania. Hmm... Maybe we are stretching the genres here a bit. Looks cool, though. :)

I should have explained myself a bit more - with the chapters you have to back track once you have acquired certain weapons, to unlock new areas. That is more on par with the standard metroidvania

Been following this via Twitter for a while, and it looks so awesome. I'm hoping the combat is somewhat minimal or at least not frustrating, with a focus on exploration. I'll play No Man's Sky to hold me over until this comes out!

Looking good. This should be a fun one!

This really does look good but after I got soooo hyped for when Crescent Moon dropped "Exiles" and remembering that disappointing "experience" I'm a little gun shy. (I say disappointing experience rather than calling it a train wreck or just a bad game because I feel like I hyped myself up too much for a game that was mediocre which i don't think is necessary a bad thing and bare bones at parts but amazingly bountiful in others. If I had not been so pumped for it or just stumbled across it on the App Store by accident I think I would have not been anywhere close to feeling disappointed and probably would have really enjoyed the game as a whole). I do think this has the potential to be a good game but I am curtailing my expectations a bit and waiting to read reviews and first impressions before hitting that buy button.

We're definitely hoping to move passed the whole 'Exiles sucked' stigma that we have attached to us. This is made by a different developer from Exiles - as is Legend of the Skyfish, Atomic Super Lander, and various other games that we've done recently that have gotten good reviews.

Caught Atomic Super Lander while it was on sale recently, and that's a game deserving of more TA kudos. The whole '50s sci-fi comic style, the great physics, and the various gameplay styles made for something pretty special. Really hope you keep up the recent good run!

I'm well excited for Morphite! I have played many Crescent Moon games now and I suppose I don't fully understand much about the Exiles backlash because I did not play it myself. Had a great time with many other titles so I'd say I'm still ahead. If Combat is as fun and intuitive to control as MetPrime then there is nothing can stop me from instabuying this.

I don't think you understand what that word means, FYI metroid prime is not metroidvania.

This. Maybe it's a "Metroid-like" but Metroidvania, nah.
