I’ve been playing the upcoming Starlit Adventures today and I’m really enjoying it. It manages to get a simple mechanic (you are descending to the bottom of the level) and cleverly embellish it with so many other ideas that you’ll constantly be pleasantly surprised (the developers were influenced by games such as Bomberman, Dig Dug, Mr. Driller, and Boulder Dash). In order to descend, you dig sideways or downwards, but at the same time you can land on enemies’ heads, push blocks at them, unlock various suits with special powers, and so on. Some levels play like an arcade game while others are more puzzle-like, and this constant shift keeps the game fresh (at least for as far as I played it). There’s also an ‘Infinite Tower’ where you can try and beat your friends and so on, and so on.
In addition to the fun mechanics, this game looks great with the various characters nicely designed and animated. The developers claim the art was inspired by classic Japanese games, and I can definitely see that. Both the visuals and the story (you are guiding the inseparable Bo & Kikki in their quest to restore peace) make the game very child-friend, so parents should definitely keep an eye out for this one. The game doesn’t lack content either since it has 80 levels spread across 8 worlds all of which come with their own bosses. You will also be collecting and exchanging stickers with friends, which hopefully will tie the game’s social elements with its gameplay. This game is really promising, so I suggest you keep an eye out when it launches on the 19th. It is, as you suspected, F2P, but hopefully the monetization will be painless.
