Upcoming ‘Age of Wushu Dynasty’ Going Into Closed Beta Soon, Still Looks Great

TouchArcade Rating:

A few months back I wrote about Age of Wushu Dynasty (AoWD), an upcoming MMO that plans to bring a martial art aesthetic to mobile. The game seems to be coming along well, and Snail Games has just announced that the game will go in closed Beta in November. Based on the PC MMO title Age of Wushu, AoWD is an open world MMO featuring traditional martial arts tropes and themes. The game’s focus on martial arts rather than a generic fantasy world and heroes sounds very interesting to me; I’m tired of Elves, sorry. Instead of having the same classes as most other MMOs, in AoWD you get to pick which of the four competing martial arts school to join. From there, you develop your own Kungfu skill set and collect weapons. The game has a single player mode and online multiplayer features with both PvP and team co-op modes.

The game’s visuals are excellent, as you can see from the trailer above, and the combat system uses animations modeled on renowned Kungfu masters (not Kung fu Panda, unfortunately). The fighting system is based on Skill Sets, unique combinations of attacks, feints, blocks, and powerful ‘Rage’ attacks. Add to that skills like ranged poison attacks, and fast stuns, and you get an idea of how the fights should play out. I’m curious to see how this game will turn out, and I hope it ends up being good because I’d like to play an MMO that’s removed from all the fantasy tropes. If you are interested in the Beta, go to the game’s website to subscribe to the newsletter, although I have no idea how many testers they are actually going to need.

To steal a term from a fellow TA member, the buy button smashed me on this one.

Instabought! even without any imps! Big fan from the first Dragon Fantasy! Played a few mins, and I'm loving it already. The battle system plays like Chrono Trigger, in which there are some skills that have an area range (Crono's sword spin skill).

Ok wow! just discovered you can play it in portrait mode also! the movement swipe and a map goes at the bottom half of the screen.

Whaaaa?!? That's like they heard my request from the first game, and actually implemented it here! So awesome.

          1. curtisrshideler

Also, it makes sense since they ported it to the DS.

      Random battle?

      1. reweblind

So far, it plays like Chrono with regards to encounters

I was a hug supporter of the first Dragon Fantasy, but was super bummed to see this second one go exclusively PSN for a while. If it meant they could afford to make it and make it right, then it was worth the wait though! Though I've got a ton of other games in my rotation, I'm so excited to finally pick this up and play it.

Anyone else read the game title as "The Black Tome of Ice & Fire"? :)

Ok. This looks like an instabuy for me. Anybody been playing for a few? The comment on "mixed reviews" is making me hesitate, but it also mentions that they took the time to address the issues. (Go devs). What are we thinking?

I've been waiting for it, so I instabought. But after playing it for a while this morning, I'm even more excited to keep playing. The game looks gorgeous and the controls work beautifully. I'm not too far into this one, but if it is even half as good and funny as the first, then it would be a success. But I'm guessing this one will outshine even that!

Ehhh this game got pretty much universally terrible reviews when it came out you can google. Im pretty hesitant on this one. Not into difficulty sliders in rpgs, they just sap the challenge when I cave to lowering.

      1. ElPumo

If the PS3 version is any indication the slider is probably to let you make the game more of a challenge. Only part way through but only met one enemy that cleaned my clock so far.

Waiting on reviews because this one got very bad reviews on ps platform

      1. ElPumo

Only played part way through the PS3 game before getting distracted by some more modern looking games. Has some minor technical issues but nothing too annoying. Sounds like these have been addressed for iOS.

      2. ElPumo

It is a fun game and I intend to finish it one of these days.

    11. Airpegy

      Does it came by chapter?
You got to buy other chapters ?

      1. ElPumo

Wasn't clear about this either. PS3 came as full game. I don't see any iap shown for the iOS version at this time.

If I buy this on iPhone do I get it cross buy on Apple TV?
