Disruptor Beam, the developer behind Game Of Thrones Ascent, is dipping into another extremely popular universe, Star Trek, to try and hopefully remedy the ills that have befallen on the franchise in the gaming world. The game will be called Star Trek Timelines, and as the title betrays, it takes place in a universe where a temporal anomaly brings together characters, settings, and stories from TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, and ENT. In Star Trek Timelines, you take the role of a captain, gathering a crew of your favorite, or most-hated, Star Trek characters. If you know anything about the Star Trek universe, different crews have different ways of dealing with various challenges, some talk it out while others shoot it out. I expect the game to be similar to Game of Thrones Ascent with, hopefully, overall improvements to the game mechanics.
The team behind the game emphasizes in every opportunity that it consists of great fans of the show, so they want to really bring the core principles and viewpoints of Star Trek into the game: optimism for the future, belief in progress and equality, and a love for exploration. The game will also have a Conflict system, a system that will give players many choices as to how various conflicts should be resolved. The game will even include PvP and PvE Starship battles! Watch the video above to learn more about Disruptor Beam’s vision of the game, and let’s all hope that when the game lands (they are hoping for Fall 2015, but we’ll see), we won’t once more be disappointed. I’m an optimist, so I’m hoping we’ll finally get a good Star Trek game on our most Star Trek– like devices, our iPads and iPhones.
