Every week when I put together the Update Mondays articles, it makes me smile to see certain games and developers appearing frequently. Particularly so if it involves free updates to paid games, because let’s be honest, that’s a lot of extra work for likely little return in the pure financial sense. One of the most often-appearing developer is The Trese Brothers, a family team who have released a number of games on iOS and Android. On iOS, their most famous title is likely Star Traders RPG ($2.99), but they’ve also released the strategy RPG Heroes Of Steel ($3.99) and the 4X simulation game Star Traders 4X Empires ($4.99). Each of those games is updated dutifully with bug fixes, new content, balance tweaks, and more, and hardly a month goes by without one or more of them appearing on my list. Simply put, this developer puts a lot of work in to try to make its customers as happy as possible.
That’s part of why I’m excited to hear about the upcoming release of their latest game, Templar Battleforce, a sequel to their earlier Android title Templar Assault. I’m also excited because the game sounds really cool. It’s a turn-based strategy RPG with a sci-fi theme where you play as a group of armored soldiers who are sent out to take the fight to an alien threat. You can customize each member of your team to a ridiculous degree, personalizing them and building them up as you move from battle to battle. Sure, you’ve probably played a game or two with a similar premise, but we’re not exactly drowning in quality sci-fi strategy RPGs out here, are we? The game promises a campaign spanning more than 30 missions, and will sell for $4.99 with a few completely optional one-time purchase IAPs.
The Trese Brothers are currently targeting an early July release date for Templar Battleforce, so we should be playing this one pretty soon. As usual for this developer, I expect the launch version will only be the beginning for the game. There will almost certainly be plenty of updates to come, but we’ll let you know exactly how that initial version turns out once it’s released. In the meantime, you can get yourself prepared by checking out the teaser trailer that shows off a little gameplay.
