As found in our new games and price drops page, a few notable titles have received price drops.
Guitar Rock Tour ($9.99 -> $7.99)
Gameloft’s Guitar Hero clone came out just last week and has already seen a price drop from $9.99 to $7.99. Overall, the game has been very well received and if you’re a fan of the rhythm game genre, this one’s probably worth the price. But be warned, there have been some complaints of stability issues with this first version.
The game is curiously only compatible with the iPhone and not the iPod Touch.
App Store Link: Guitar Rock Tour, $7.99
SPiN ($4.99 -> $2.99)
We took a look at this silhouette matching game at its release and quite enjoyed it. A new gameplay video offers a better look at the actual gameplay, and the price has dropped to $2.99.
App Store Link: SPiN, $2.99
HupplePupple ($2.99 -> $0.99)
This is actually a title that we haven’t highlighted before. The game is similar to Mouse About in which you control your PacMan-like character (“Hupple") by choosing which direction he runs. He will run in that direction until he hits a wall.
Your goal is to collect all the hearts and end up facing Hupple’s love interest (“Pupple") to complete each level. You have to plan your moves strategically, however, to be able to collect all the hearts.

The game only has 20 levels and you must start at level 1 each time. This is what prevented us from giving the game a recommendation before, but for $0.99, we feel it’s worth the price.
App Store Link: HupplePupple, $0.99
wow........
too spendy.
I would pay 3.99 for it
I'll get it, but I was hoping for regular Monopoly, not this special edition :(
Not in AU store yet. Anyone know an email address where I can abuse EA for this oversight?
Darwiniandude: have you tried searching for it directly rather than using the App Store link above? The UK store has an "international edition" so the link above doesn't work.
James: if EA did the original version, they'd have to make a localised version for every territory (the UK version, for instance, has Mayfair). I don't think EA want the effort.
As for me, £4.99 is a bit steep for something that isn't the 'classic' version.
Finally! The App-Store Link does not work here in Germany, though. Had to search for it manually.
WTH!? OS 2.2 is needed for installation! BS
Now I'd have to upgrade from 2.0 just for this game.
Stupid...
Or jailbreak and download the Version Changer application.
@noah.. version changer wont magically put frameworks on your phone/ipod the its missing and needs to run 2.2 stuff..
drunknbass - but FWChanger really works for Monopoly! I've just tried it! Thanks Noah!
this game is really well done. my girlfriend and i just played each other over wifi. very cool!
How do you get FWchanger to spoof 2.2 ?
Its not listed in the app ?

Awesome, been waiting for this for a long time. Personally I do wish it was still the classic version - if they ever do an update that allows for you to switch to the classic properties and cards, that would be cool - but in the end, Monopoly is Monopoly, so I can't complain.
Can this only be played online via wifi or only people standing next to you. Kinda hate that if that is how it is. I love playing Live Poker and live chess games with other people online.
Btw, I've got to say, I still do love how the App Store has re-shifted the expectations for what games and other apps should be priced at. Coming from the Treo, it's a whole different ballgame. A few years ago, Monopoly for Palm OS (which is a pretty bare-bones affair: http://store.handmark.com/p... ) used to go for $30 or so. Even now, even though it's such an old app, it still costs $15. And here we have a full 3D version of the game selling for $7.99 for the iPhone. I know people will still complain about this, but just be grateful you aren't paying the $20-30 (or more) prices that used to be totally common on Palm OS.
Exactly, Zadillo.
I'm amazed as well. Considering the high quality of games by Gameloft, EA, etc. I think the prices are quite fair. You can buy at least six high-end iPhone titles for the price of a single Wii/360/PS3 games.
I've said it before, developers are hurting themselves by pricing stuff waaaay too low. I know why they do it: app store exposure in the top 10 list. But as a result, people think *everything* should cost 99 cents. Simple fact is, you can't produce EA/Gameloft quality at that price point.
Im actually surprised this is only $7.99, I personally would have paid $10 in a heartbeat.
I gotta disagree on the whole quality vs price aspect. Apple themselves set a reasonable price point with Texas Hold'em and have stuck with it's $4.99. You have to consider that they don't have to pay for shipping/boxes/manuals/discs etc... so a digital purchase of a game like monopoly at $7.99 is overpriced.
I wouldn't pay over $5 for it.
If more people start setting unrealistic guidlines for app pricing then the app store/iphone will never truley amount to much. if this same game came out on psp/ds no one would bat an eyelash at spending $20.00 for it, but you hesitate at $8.00?
ODC,
Here's the thing: Apple actually priced the game rather cheaply, just so people would try out the app store. That's also why they gave away remote... just so people would try out this new distribution method. They don't need to adjust the price, because they didn't intend it to 'compete' with other products right away. It's basically a write off, and any money it makes is a bonus.
Apple didn't really intend $4,99 to be a guideline. If they had, they'd make it mandatory, or add price caps. They didn't. They decided to let the market seek its own level. As a result, everything's priced at 99 cents.
Except, of course, the good stuff that you'd actually want to play. Me, I'm willing to spend more to get more. And stuff from Gameloft, EA and other bigger developers is far better then most of the 99 cent crap.
Can't wait to buy it, though I'll wait till it hits $4
Very well done! I believe if you want quality, you may have to pay for it. This is well worth the price. The graphics are very clear with a very easy interface to use. Played my first game against 1 AI, enjoyed it. Online the game may take too long for most, although if someone drops they will be replaced by AI.
Show your support for well designed games and get them early. Spend a little more and we will see a lot more good games come out if developers are rewarded for their talents!
CAN THIS BE PLAYED ONLINE??

CAN THIS BE PLAYED ONLINE??
YES!
Love it. Bought it. Expected $9.99 glad to pay less. Now, awaiting Sim City!
me too was hoping for normal Monopoly as this version (i bought) is not really that good but still it's a lot of fun. Worth $5-$6 ;)
I'm pretty jazzed about this. The AI is actually decent and I lost my first game (which actually means the purchase is worthwhile because now I will be forced to play again). Some of the AI's make stupid trades and some are stingy on trades. Overall, it's worth it, but the Here & Now properties and the prices for things make it all unfamiliar and strange. Would rather have the classic board and prices. I have to think too much about what I should pay at auction, in trades, etc.
Comparing a DS or PSP price to the App Store is not reasonable. A DS or PSP game has some intrinsic costs that don't exist on the App Store. The physical cartridges or discs don't need to be produced, the boxes don't need to be designed or printed, and the products don't have to be shipped. In addition, there's no need to manage the distribution channel or multiple retail relationships. You don't have to hire people to be the Walmart or Target liason. You don't need to worry about producing too many games and have an unsold inventory.
In other words, 70% of the cost of the game is always profit (not including the very substantial cost of development) on the App Store. In a physical store, selling below a given price can actually cost a company money, even not including the very substantial cost of development.
The Help pages mention under Bankruptcy "If you go bankrupt paying a debt to the bank, the bank immediately sells all of your properties at auction to the remaining players if auctions are enabled."
That implies there should be an option to toggle Auctions somewhere, but I can't find it.
Bjorn, actually gameloft can develope a game at those low prices. Gameloft uses Chinese developers
Dave, that would be interesting except that Sony is still charging $15-20 for electronic downloads of PSP games (that had previously been available on UMD) through the PSN store.
Regarding the game, I'm enjoying it so far. I still need to get used to the new property names I guess (it's still a little disorienting, but at least the property colors and order are the same), but it's still fundamentally monopoly.
Finished my first game last night, and it plays like a nice solid game of Monopoly. One thing I wish is that it gave you an "end of game" summary (I think it might be the old gameboy advance version of Monopoly that did a nice job of showing you the details of all your holdings and a chart showing how everyone progressed through the game). It does at least give you overall stats (won/lost, most money earned, etc.) which is nice.
I have a 16GB iPhone 3G running v2.2. This Monopoly game crashes every time. It shows the intro screen and then crashes back to the desktop.
If I were you, I'd take a pass until EA releases an update.

Hi all
I just bought this on Appstore...but I encountered the same as hff135. I am on version 2.2 and it always jumps back to my springboard whenever I start the game...Any solution guys??
@NOAH
i've just changed to f/w 2.2 but still the itunes sync doesn't show monopoly on my ipod touch
plz help
16gb iphone 3g with 2.2 and mine crashes also, i've been looking for a solution since the app came out, with no luck!
My Monopoly initially crashed all the time too. It's now fixed. I phone Apple Support about an unrelated issue and this fixed it.
I was able to fix it by going into Settings > General > International > Region Format and changing it to Canada. I think you can also select USA.
Previously, the value I had was "English". This is a bit bizarre because "English" is not available from that list anymore. I assume that this value was in an earlier iPhone firmware and they removed it. I think the bug is probably that Monopoly doesn't support one of the date/data format that the iPhone was using.
Yeah, I had the same problem with Monopoly.
Thanks to hff135 - now it's all just fine. Even Perfect. I love this game!
Really, thank you - I'm from Poland and polish app support was not able to help me with this issue...
@dk206
turn it off and back on, it will install then.
@hff135 - thank you for this great hint, had the same problem and now it's working great! It just looks like my battery won't be lasting very long with this graphics... :)
hff135...
Thank you so much. I followed exactly what you did and changed the Region format to US...Woooooooooohhhhooooooooooo...it works... Thanks man...
Thank you very much hff135… EA should post the solution in the i tunes application store.....
Thank you soo much hff135!!!!
i am happily playing monopoly with my cousin
lol
thanks again
I love this game! It is now AUD$5.99 in the App Store.
The only issue I have is when you shake the dice they stay in mid-air, shivering. I have to tip the phone upside down a couple of times so that they are dislodged and fall on the board. Weird.
Other than that, I'm so far very happy with this as I looooove Monopoly :)
Great Post hff135!!!
thanks sooo much!! I love this game, it rocks!!!
Thankyou hff135 I've been trying to solve this little problem for a couple of weeks now, I had run out of ideas. Where would we be without Fourms and user groups!!
this is pathetic. How could ea create this game without multiplayer? I know it has wifi multiplayer, but seriously, what are the chances your going to be beside someone with a touch or an iphone who also owns the game? i mean real multiplayer, online play against people from any part of the world. I know its possible cause there are a lot of games on the app store that easily do it (with very cheap price too - i.e. ace tennis online)
I wanna e-mail EA and tell them! they should be ashamed of themesevles for leaving such a crucial point out. please if anyone knows the email to whichi i should direct this concern to, please post it here, thnx
iam using version 2.3 and most of the time i cant see games across wifi i have 1 6g and 1 32 gig iphone and i have been looking for weeks for a solution because it takes sometimes 30mins of turning off, dicoconnecting the wifi, geatting in and out of the game before i finnaly see the game and then if i put AI opponents in the wrong slot it crashes back to desktop and if i finnaly get a working game it crashes normaly about 15min in. ive tryed the U.S/Cannada thing ive tryed setting them to AUS ive tryed giveing myself static ip's and setting the DNS's. the problem seems to be random and ive reinstalled the game serveral times. this seems to be bad coding in the game for wifi, does anyone know any other things that can affect it like wireless speed or channel or wirless type or securty on the wireless perhaps
